“Those candy canes look so booty-ful mommy,” said 4-year-old Kaleb with a dreamy gaze. I chuckled as I watched his glimmering eyes stare adoringly at our tree decorated with those shiny red and white striped treats my husband, Kenya, brought home. From the moment the candy canes were hung, I think Kaleb subconsciously set a goal for himself—to eat every single one. So, in an effort to convince his dear mother to continue giving him permission to unhook those peppermint delights from the tree branches, my little tyke constantly interjected candy canes into our conversation in any way he could. In fact, he’s still doing it, although more than half of them are gone now. “Uh, do you like pepp-o-mint candy canes too mommy?” he queries with a big innocent smile on his face. Isn’t it always funny to see... Read more →

My uncle on my mother’s side, whom I didn’t know very well, passed away last week. So, my mom, Annie, is grieving the loss of her brother right now—her sister passed away from cancer just months ago— and she is in my prayers. A young lady I’ve known for a while, named Nia, went into labor. She and her husband were so excited about adding their new son to their family after a healthy full-term pregnancy. But, the baby died Saturday. The two of them are in mourning today. A close family friend named Katrina, lost her young daughter, J’Kayla, to cancer this year. This will be her first Christmas without her little angel. She needs our prayers so much. So many people have lost loved ones. Others are struggling with health issues. Some families are in financial crisis. And... Read more →

I prayed for lucidity yesterday. And, no. I don’t use that word all the time. Although I majored in English back in college and I love words, I tend to keep it basic when I’m talking to God. We have a regular conversation. He’s my best friend. But the word just rolled off my tongue, as if God implanted that prayer in me, and let me give voice to it. Even when I heard myself say, “I pray for lucidity right now God,” it seemed a bit odd. But, actually, it was just what I needed during such a hectic day. Lucid means several different things. But I think there is a particular way God wanted to apply it to me. The definitions that resonate with me most are: having a clear mind, being rational, and balanced. After I finished... Read more →

While many of us are excited about the holidays—Thanksgiving and Christmas are all about love, giving, and sharing special time with family—there are many people going through tough times. Job loss, death of loved ones, foreclosure, health challenges, and all kinds of personal struggles are plaguing lots of families. This season, we want to make sure we’re remembering them and praying God’s peace and comfort over their lives. Please join me in praying for the individuals who sent “prayer mail” to me to be included on our “Thoughtful Thursdays” list. Feel free to send your request to [email protected]. 1. I love this saying: “Let prayer be your first response, not your last resort.” When you’re going through hard times it’s easy to look for answers and solutions everywhere else but from the Lord who created both me and you. Everyday, steal away and talk to God. No one can dictate the length of time, place, or even what you talk to Him about. Just make sure you’re in regular communication with the Father. I ask that you please join me in praying on behalf of these individuals on our Thoughtful Thursday’s list today. 1. Stephanie Coleman writes, “Dianna I am having surgery today to have fibroid tumors removed from my uterus. They cause me so much pain and discomfort and I want to be free of this issue. That’s so awesome. Your commitment to seeking God on behalf of others is a blessing. Please continue to stand in faith with me each week as we believe God for breakthrough. When I was a teenager, my family lived in the church parsonage. And sometimes I would walk over to the big empty sanctuary and cry out to God. I loved my alone time with Him. I felt so close to the Lord during those intimate moments with no distractions. These days, even though the physical sanctuary isn’t just a few steps away, I still love having time alone with God to go before His throne in prayer. And today, wherever you are, I want you to join me in talking to the Lord on behalf of the women on our Thoughtful Thursdays list. 1. Danielle writes: Hi Dianna. First let me say thank you for your Daily Cup and how you inspire women like me everyday. I trust your advice and your wisdom. I know it is from the Lord.... Read more →

Before we get into today’s list I want to say how much I appreciate and thank God for the opportunity to touch your life, albeit from afar, every weekday through this blog. But my greatest joy and priviledge is to stand in faith with you, believing God to supply your every need. I don’t take this time of prayer on “Thoughtful Thursdays” lightly; I feel humbled to read over such personal prayer requests—both private and public—and seek God on your behalf. Today, please join me in praying for the following individuals: 1. The doctors cannot operate and have only given her 3-6 months to live. I lost my mother to breast cancer just 5... Read more →

Amen? With that in mind, please join me in praying for the following individuals: 1. Cherise Butler wrote: Please pray for God’s peace. I am struggling to hold on to... Read more →

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7) Today I had a conversation with someone very close to me. She has been living on her own for a while and trying to make ends meet. But, about 8 weeks ago, she suddenly lost her job without warning, and has been fighting for unemployment benefits while seeking new employment. A few weeks ago, she was really discouraged and low in her spirit. I’m sure you know that hard times have a way of wearing you down—particularly when you’ve been going through for a long time. Anyway, on Tuesday, things began taking a turn for the better, and although the situation is not fully resolved, God is working it out as we speak. And I’m believing... Read more →

Charmaine wrote: Dianna, Thoughtful Thursdays has really changed my life. I learned about it because a family friend was listed on here a while back and I got an email asking me to pray. I wasn't a believer at the time, but from that, I started reading your blog. And when I would see how you would pray for people with problems and God would really answer and bless people I wanted to know God too! I couldn't win last night. I was so tired. When I was up working, I couldn't keep my eyes open. When I laid down to sleep, I just couldn't seem to drop off. I think my mind was way too overactive. So even though I felt tired in my body, my mind was wide awake, busy thinking about all I needed to do the following day. I'm sure you know how it is to lie in bed and be physically still, while your thoughts continue racing a million miles per minute. My external position certainly didn't match my internal condition. Being still and being at rest are not the same. Well, instead of lying there counting sheep, I began to pray and talk to the Lord about a few things that had me a bit on edge. Not long after...
