“God, You are so faithful,” I said, feeling overwhelmed with thanksgiving. Yesterday afternoon, I gave God the best praise I could offer. A few months ago, the Lord spoke to me about something and I shared what He said with my husband Kenya. As the weeks went by, the word I received was in no way lining up with a series events unfolding in my life. Still, I could sense the Lord urging me to believe what He was saying over what I was seeing. Have you ever been walking completely by faith when every bit of tangible evidence seemingly said the opposite of what God told you? If so, you can appreciate what I’m articulating here today. Well, anyway, last week something else occurred that really made it look like there was no way I had heard God. And... Read more →

Hi Daily Cup family! Yesterday I got so busy, I missed blogging. It was my niece Ayanna’s 10th birthday, and my sister, Shavette, invited all the kids to the skating rink for the birthday party. So, most of my day was spent getting the Hobbs clan ready for the party and then hanging out with them. Although it was a tiring day, the children and I had a fantastic time! We really did. The biggest surprise of the night came when my 4-year-old son, Kaleb, decided he wanted to skate for the first time. When we got out there on that slick floor, I clutched my baby boy’s hand tightly, so he could depend on my strength and stability to hold him up. Every time he would slip, I would firmly grasp him, so he wouldn’t fall down. After about... Read more →

2010 is almost gone. That’s hard to believe, though I am very excited about what’s to come. As always, when I prepare to enter a new year, I reflect back on all that has happened and ponder the lessons learned from each situation. Over the past week or so, God has been really dealing with me about one specific bit of wisdom that has been a huge blessing in my life, and I want to share it with you. Before I do, however, I must testify about how God has totally transformed my thinking. I remember when the opportunity first presented itself for me to enter into the world of entrepreneurship years ago. I felt like a scared little child learning to walk. I didn’t know if I would be able to move forward without falling and failing… miserably. Today,... Read more →

My 9 year old daughter Kaiah flashed a bright smile at me. And from the moment I detected a deep chocolate shiny substance smeared all over her lips and just above her lip line, I knew she had been playing in mommy’s tinted gloss, again. “Wow!” I said smiling approvingly, “You put on some lip gloss, I see. Oooh, pretty.” Nodding and barely able to contain her excitement, Kaiah grinned from ear to ear, pleased as punch that I had taken notice of her glammed up look. To her untrained eye, baby girl was ready for her close-up—smeared gloss and all. So funny. You know, she and her older sister, Kyla, are going through their phase (One I’ve been told will never end!) of regularly playing in my clothes, shoes (My good shoes!), make-up, and jewelry. It’s always hilarious to... Read more →

Hi guys! Just a quick post today… Over the past few months there have been many things that have occurred in my life which have seriously altered my schedule. For a while, I had the order and structure of my days/weeks pretty much down to a science. I felt fairly comfortable—at least, as comfortable as I can be in my field. A profession centered around speaking, publishing, writing, and operating several businesses can be unpredictable and chaotic to say the least. But this has been such a whirlwind year, adding a new list of “To Do’s” with the pursuit of music. Things are changing so rapidly. So last evening I had a meeting with my management team to begin reworking my schedule. We had to make sure everything fit together perfectly. As we combed over every detail of my days,... I celebrated my husband Kenya’s birthday over the week-end. We had a great time. One of the best things about birthday celebrations—both his and mine—is the part where we receive gifts from the children. Only, in our house, the children don’t buy us anything. Instead, they make us gifts using only their creative imaginations. We get cards, paper dolls, and books they’ve made. All sorts of sweet little things. It’s always so cool to see what they come up with. So anyway, our daughter Kaiah who is 9 years old, knocked on our bedroom door Saturday—the day before Kenya’s birthday. When she came inside, she was holding a white piece of paper. “Daddy, I need you to hold your head down please,” she announced. “Okay baby,” Kenya responded and hung his head low. Kaiah very gently placed a crown she... Read more →

I got an email inviting me to an intense coaching session promising to show me (and whoever else was interested) how to become experts at personal branding and consequently, "explode" revenues. The investment? Only somewhere around, uh, 1200 bucks. Well, I know one easy way to help revenues that I'll give out to you for FREE. It's called the "Don't-give-all-your-money-away-to-other-people" Plan. You know what I found interesting about this whole offer? In the sales pitch, which I read through to the end, this individual admitted to gaining major clients without knowing what in the world they were doing. According to them, they had just become proficient at packaging themselves to look like an expert and convince others to pay them money. After I finished the last sentence, I thought... and that's exactly what you're still trying to do. Not gonna... Read more →

"Somebody slap your neighbor and tell 'em, God is turning that thing around!" says the preacher back to the standing audience. So, I turn to my neighbor enthusiastically and give them a high-five as a wave of praise goes through the building. We're uplifted, encouraged, and we all go home with a heightened level of expectation. There's nothing like a good word to stir the soul. But unfortunately, many people take that word, hold on to it tightly, and never do anything to work toward what they're believing God to do in their lives. So then, naturally, between revelation and manifestation, they experience frustration and disillusionment. And they begin feeling like God has failed them somewhere along the way, as if, the word doesn't work. They're right. The word doesn't work without two things: Faith and Work (See James 2:14-26).... Yesterday I was reading over some old articles I had written several years back. Although my views and life philosophy are fundamentally the same even today, the manner in which I express my ideas nowadays, has greatly changed. Looking retrospectively, I see many things I wrote that could have been communicated much better or differently. Hindsight is 20/20, right? Especially when you're viewing things through more mature and experienced lenses. While I was in the moment, however, I didn't see any other way, nor did I even stop to think that, perhaps I could have used a little refinement. I'm sure you can relate to this, because we all make choices according to the level of understanding we're operating in at that time. We are sometimes guilty of not trusting God enough and trusting in ourselves too much. But the... Read more →

Throughout my formative years, well into my teens, my siblings and I would hit the road with my dad who was a traveling evangelist. Aside from preaching soul-stirring sermons, my father would also operate fluently in the gifts of the spirit. I am no stranger to the five-fold ministry of Ephesians 4:11: "It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers." Dad was all five rolled into one. So, it was not atypical for me to see the prophetic gifts in action. When folks went up for prayer, they came back with genuine testimonies of healing and deliverance. I can remember how my father, with beads of sweat dripping down his face, would hear from God in the middle of an altar call. He would... Read more →

I often hear longtime friends of my family say to me, "Dianna, I remember you when you were just a tiny thing in ponytails and bobby socks." This statement is usually accompanied by a wide grin and an embarrassing follow-up story. Some folks even have photographic evidence of my early days in church, with those off-centered ponytails, ruffly dresses, lace socks over opaque tights, with the scuffed up black patent leather shoes. It's always quite funny to look back on those moments. Somehow, those images always conjure up some kind of memory of growing up in the church, no matter how vague. I grew up singing, teaching and being very active in ministry. You see, Dad was the Pastor and Mom was the First Lady. Yep, you guessed it. I was a preacher's kid, but not the kind who went... On September 29, 2009, do you remember in my blog post entitled "Your Time Will Come" how I talked about how I believed God was telling me to wait on a project I had been diligently pursuing? If not, feel free to refresh yourself here. Well, I remember how I didn't fully understand why the Lord was telling me to postpone my plans and put things on hold... especially because I was (and still am) sure that the desire to pursue that course came from the Lord. You see, I had a date for the launch of a particular project and my plans were well underway, but I sensed God tugging at my spirit saying wait. I didn't have the full picture about why, but I didn't know that the answer would be revealed so soon. I want you to... Read more →

There's a high profile and disturbingly graphic affidavit involving Jermaine Jakes, the son of Bishop TD Jakes that's making its way around the media circuit. (Source: Dallas Morning News) Bloggers are buzzing as well as reputable news organizations. While the story is indeed shocking and difficult to process, as Christians, we have to take a different approach. Of course, some secular media outlets are having a field day with the story and utilizing it as evidence that TD Jakes is a fraud. Though Bishop Jakes has not been implicated in any way, folks are quick to point fingers at him for the actions of his 29 year old, fully grown son. They don't have any mercy, compassion or sensitivity whatsoever, but we should. The Bible says, "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy" (Matthew 5:7). What if it... Read more →

In the spirit of such a historic day I want to show you a brief and awesome vintage video of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who believed, even in the height of the Civil Rights Movement, that this wonderful day we're celebrating today would indeed come. "What great faith!" I thought to myself when I saw this interview with BBC's Bob McKenzie, where Dr. King expressed his unwavering optimism that we would indeed have an African American President of the United States within the span of 25 years or less. And although it didn't quite manifest in that time frame, Dr. King still believed. It made me think about how important it is for us to remain firm in faith, ever trusting God for change even when the possibility of it seems highly unlikely. Take about a minute to check... Someone sent me a text message that said, "They wouldn't give us 4o acres and a mule, so we took 50 States and a White House." I received another one that said, "Rosa sat so Martin could walk...
