Situations often arise in our lives that cause concern, disappointment, and even stress. If we give into our emotions, we'll waste time worrying, instead of doing what we CAN do, and trusting God to do the rest... Read the full post at www.diannahobbs.com. Read more →

I couldn't win last night. I was so tired. When I was up working, I couldn't keep my eyes open. When I laid down to sleep, I just couldn't seem to drop off. I think my mind was way too overactive. So even though I felt tired in my body, my mind was wide awake, busy thinking about all I needed to do the following day. I'm sure you know how it is to lie in bed and be physically still, while your thoughts continue racing a million miles per minute. My external position certainly didn't match my internal condition. Being still and being at rest are not the same. Well, instead of lying there counting sheep, I began to pray and talk to the Lord about a few things that had me a bit on edge. Not long after... Hey, thanks for logging on to read The Daily Cup once again. Hope your week-end was awesome. Mine was great, at least up until late Saturday evening. Here's what happened... I was in my bedroom when I heard a loud crash coming from the direction of the bathroom. Immediately, I hopped up and made a mad dash in that direction, hoping that none of the children were hurt in what sounded like some sort of nasty accident. Well, thankfully, no one was hurt... yet. Turns out that, my full length mirror, with this heavy wooden border, fell off the wall it had been mounted on, for no apparent reason. I walked into the bathroom to find huge shards of glass scattered all over the floor and in the tub... and no, I'm not superstitious. I'm not at all fearful of... Read more →

As you probably know by now, I jammed my fingers pretty badly on March 19th. So badly, in fact, it's April 2nd and it still hurts to completely straighten and close the fingers on my right hand. I figured they would only be sore for a short while. Well, a few days after the incident, they did feel a lot better. But I didn't know they would go through a series of painful changes. Although they're healing nicely and the green and blue bruising is finally gone, the journey toward total and complete functionality has been a slow one. Thankfully, I can type will all my fingers again, so things are moving along much faster. At times, it was pretty frustrating though, because there were other things I wasn't able to do for a while that I do pretty routinely,... Read more →

My youngest son Kaleb turned three yesterday. I can't believe how quickly he's growing up. So, I've already begun working to get him acquainted with his new age by practicing putting up three fingers. Kaleb prefers to use the "Okay" sign to signify his age. Whatever works, right? Only problem is, he puts up his three-finger-okay-sign, smiles broadly and proudly and then says,"I'm dix". Translation? He thinks he's six years old. Uh...six? Where did he get that from? I don't quite know how Kaleb arrived at that conclusion. I suppose he arbitrarily picked a number. Maybe six just kinda had a nice ring to it. Whatever the case, we've gotta work on that. Otherwise, I can see it now. The nice lady bends down in the mall to ask his age. He throws up his okay sign (already confusing) and... Read more →

Inevitably, in life you will face some circumstances and situations that you are powerless to change or resolve: A loved one falling ill, an unexpected layoff, the death of someone close to you, or even an economic recession like the one America is facing right now. Those are all things you can't work out on your own no matter how much you wish you could. But then, there are bothersome situations you'll face along life's road that you CAN change. If you don't recognize your ability to alter those things, you'll render yourself powerless when you don't have to be. Here's a very basic example. Let's say you've been extremely busy lately attending to things that are relatively important...kids, school, work, the business, ministry. Lots of stuff. And because of your hectic schedule, you feel like you haven't had time... Read more →

Timetables are so restrictive, particularly when you put deadlines and ultimatums in place that are neither divinely inspired nor realistic. When you feel like you've gotta have something right now and won't take "wait" for an answer, you inevitably set yourself up for failure and disappointment. So, here's the foundational truth I want you to internalize as you read this post: Just because something doesn't happen according to your timetable doesn't mean God's purpose won't be fulfilled in and through you. The Bible says, "There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand" (Psalm 19:21 NKJV). When your original plan falls short of your expectations, that's no cause to be discouraged. It simply means that your plan was different from God's plan and His plan is the one that must prevail. Quit your worrying. Stop... Read more →

We can be so impatient, can't we? We want everything now. And in this day and age, the technological advancements of our society can make us feel like the world truly is at our fingertips. Think about it. We can communicate globally in real time. We've got web cams, instant messaging, internet radio, social networks and numerous other media to help us transfer information at lightning fast speed. This fosters a certain mindset in us...one that can prove very destructive if it gets out of balance. If we're not careful, we'll find ourselves sucked into an endless routine of being busy, busy, busy and ultimately, sapped of our energy. Essentially, we'll be caught up in our very own rat race facilitated by technology and social media. For a moment, envision a rat race. Picture the futile efforts of a lab... Read more →

I had an interesting experience happen to me recently. I want to share the lesson I learned from it. Let me lay the ground work for you. I'm a writer, and also, Vice President of Hobbs Ministries. Our firm works with many progressive pastors, authors, and entrepreneurs. Well, there was one client we worked with on a long-term project. He was satisfied with the work we did and went His way. As a matter of fact, we satisfactorily completed several projects on his behalf and everything went over without a hitch. Well, a few weeks after the completion of his final project, he resurfaced. But this time around, he made no specific requests for our services. He would just keep calling us to gather information related to projects he was working on independently of our firm. Because he was a... Read more →

I know so many gifted and talented people who aren’t using their creativity. They can’t see their own worth because they’re too busy focusing on their limitations. Listen, no one is perfect. We all have weaknesses. We all have areas we need to improve in. Still, each of us possesses everything we need, to do what God has called us to do. If you’re ready to see new levels of productivity in your life, there are five things you need to stop doing. I’ve listed them below: 1. Stop looking over Your Shoulder You can’t move forward if you’re always looking behind you to see what somebody else is doing. Track runners are told, “When running a race, you should never look over your shoulder to look at what your opponent is doing. It slows you down and breaks your... Read more →

“Many individuals want to be exceptional, but many lack the resolve and commitment to do what it takes to be exceptional. It takes pure sacrifice and discipline. Wanting is not enough.” Well, first let’s explore what we know about the notion of “3D” or rather, three-dimensional perspectives. I remember the first time I put on 3D glasses in the movie theatre. I was so shocked at how close the images looked and I felt that whatever was on the screen was close enough to touch me. Do you remember that feeling? What had initially seemed so far away became much more vivid and I was stunned by its clarity. Okay, I hear you saying “that’s a cute story, but what does it have to do with me?” Well, I would like to share with you my personal philosophy on developing... Read more →

I want to ask you a question today. What are you carrying around inside of you? What have you been holding in, that’s just screaming to get out? What is it? A business? A ministry? A book? An invention? C’mon, think about it. There’s got to be something. Now, you might wonder why I’m asking you this. Well, the reason is very simple. I want to stimulate and motivate you toward action. I want to be the impetus that assists you in realizing your maximum potential. It’s time. No, really it is. I’m not just saying that. Listen, you are an intelligent, creative, capable individual and there’s no conceivable reason why you shouldn’t be chasing your dreams. Surely, you may have some very real obstacles in your way, but don’t we all? Still, that’s not an excuse to be mediocre... Read more →

Dianna's original quote for the day: "Prayer changes things, but you have to implement the changes." Today, I want you to focus on a very important principle. Here goes. “God’s favor does not eliminate your labor.” Simple, but revelatory . . . at least I think so. Please internalize that principle. It will change your life if you do. Essentially, today’s post piggybacks on what I was talking to you about yesterday. You have to take some initiative. You have to be motivated enough to go after what you want. Unfortunately, I think many of us have a false sense of entitlement. What do I mean by that? Before I answer, let me establish a foundation. Here’s what I believe: We are royalty. God has given us dominion. His favor rests upon us. He has given us power to accomplish... Read more →

So . . . have you asked that question at some point? Do you feel somewhat stuck? Can’t figure out where to begin? Is the phone not ringing? Having difficulty gaining support for what you have to offer? Whatever the case, you're not alone. All of us go through it at some point. Don't be discouraged. You know, sometimes you just need, what I call "AAA," an acronym for Advice, Adjust, and Advertise. If perhaps you can't figure out the reason for your "slow" or "no" growth, begin with the three steps below. They're simple, yet powerful strategies. 1. Get advice. Ask other professionals and successful people. Have you considered that, there are countless individuals who have already done what you're currently attempting to do? You don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Why not call them up? Or, pick up... Read more →
