Won’t He do it?
This is something I often say and lots of other people do, too. It has become part of the language of pop culture even. This simple phrase or question communicates how faithful God is to come through in even the worst situations. It’s quite popular.
When something good that someone didn’t expect to happen happens, they say, won’t He do it? When an opportunity or breakthrough shows up that, initially, seemed like it would not, it’s appropriate to say, won’t He do it?
Nowadays, we see and hear folks everywhere posing this rhetorical question. There’s also a more comedic version of the same phrase that always makes me chuckle, which is, won’t He will?
I’m not sure when I adopted these phrases, but I find myself repeating both versions frequently.
There’s even a #1 gospel song titled “Won’t He do it.”
It’s everywhere.
Though we often hear the expression, say it ourselves and even sing melodies about how God never fails to show up and show out on our behalf, this is more than a cliché. God really will perform miracles and do the impossible. He really will keep every promise. He really will heal what specialists deem incurable. I know this for myself.
However, merely saying won’t He do it is far simpler than actually believing He will do it when faced with huge obstacles. Repeating a phrase and believing a principle are two entirely different things.
Friend, when the odds are stacked against us, God doesn’t want us to be “church parrots,” only saying what we’ve heard but never truly believing these things.
Hebrews 11:6 NIV says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
Hebrews focuses on the superiority of the new covenant. The old covenant emphasized works and rituals. But when Christ came, He offered salvation through faith in Christ alone. Having established that, now let’s jump into this verse.
It points out that without faith, we can’t please God. And then it goes on to say, it isn’t good enough to believe in the existence of God only. It doesn’t suffice just to know that Jesus was God wrapped in flesh, that He was crucified for our sins, rose on the third day, and is coming back again.
These beliefs are absolutely essential for salvation. Notwithstanding, that’s not all we must believe.
We must also believe that God is responsive to us; that He passes out rewards and blessings to those who sincerely, consistently and expectantly go after Him with all their heart. True faith drives our pursuit of the Lord. If we don’t really believe, we can’t and won’t stand the test of time. We won’t be diligent in going after Him. We will quit and walk away at the first sign of trouble. We’ll stop and succumb to defeat.
Real faith, however, doesn’t give up. It endures. It is relentless. It won’t die, even in the face of opposition. Trouble has a way of separating the ones who are faking it from the ones who are truly “faithing” it.
Which one are you?
Well, let’s see…
You’re still standing even though Satan hit you with his best shot. You’re still pursuing God, when others have walked away. You’re yet declaring His word, even through tears. You’re continually faithful to Him in a faithless world. You haven’t given up, even though you’ve felt like it. You yet declare that God is able, even though you have some unanswered prayers. You still know that He is Lord of all, sovereign, and able to do all things while you’re in the fiery furnace of affliction.
That’s you.
And that’s what genuine, persistent, consistent, relentless faith looks like.
That’s the kind of faith that causes God to release blessings and provision. That’s the kind of faith that moves God to break shackles and loose chains. That’s the kind of faith that gets God to work miracles and set captives free. That’s the kind of faith that reveals God’s power to open doors and make ways out of no way. That’s the kind of faith that activates His power to heal sickness and disease, and help you overcome what ought to defeat you.
Won’t He do it?
Yes He will and He’s doing it for you right now. Because you have dared to trust Him when you couldn’t trace Him; praise Him when you didn’t understand His will; and keep confessing His promises when your circumstances didn’t line up, He’s going to bless you in a big way.
Your faith has produced a harvest. Your faith has made you whole. Your faith has pulled you out of a rut. Your faith has caused God to open Heaven and shower you with His abundant grace.
To remind you that the Lord has good things for you because you’re confident in Him, I’m stirring Jeremiah 17:7 NIV into your cup of inspiration, which says, “But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.”
As you drink down the contents of your cup, know that your faith qualifies you to receive blessings you aren’t qualified for; it pushes you through doors that others try to close in your face; it releases provision where there should be none.
Because you believe God, He is going to do amazing things. Get ready. Your faith has produced a harvest.
Now let’s pray.
God, I believe You. Despite what it looks like, feels like, or how hard this test is, I believe You will take care of me and cause things to work together for my good. I believe You are who You say You are—a rewarder of those that diligently seek You. I put total confidence in You and I expect to receive all You have for me according to Your will. Thank You for my harvest. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, encourage, and empower you!
