I have Bible
study with the Hobbs children nightly. It’s always such a fun time of sharing
as the stories in the word of God come alive. So often, we laugh at the
reactions of the men and women of God. At other times, we feel sadness for the
struggles and injustices they had to endure.
Last week, we began closely examining Joseph. I must say, no matter how many times I read the biblical account of his life, I still feel empathy and compassion for him. He went through so many things that just seemed plain old unfair.
For years, many would argue, the poor guy couldn’t catch a break.
But through the worst of it, God was still with him, preparing and positioning Joseph for His ultimate purpose—to rule Egypt and save the lives of those who would have otherwise have died in the severe seven-year famine. Among those spared were his family members who treated him poorly.
You know what most impacts me?
It is the fact that Joseph wasn’t left bitter, toxic, or full of resentment. Though, as a teen, he was ripped away from his safe, loving home, and sold into Egyptian slavery, somehow, he still saw the providence of God at work.
Not only was he not angry, but in Genesis 45:5, he said to his brothers, “And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.”
How profound, right?
This great ruler whose honor rose out of adversity, was able to see the bigger picture.
Can you? Or, are you too busy complaining and dwelling on how unfair everything appears to be, to recognize that you are yet favored?
Today, I encourage you to take a page from Joseph’s story and choose to trust that God is working in your favor, even in unfavorable circumstances.
In Genesis 45:8, which is what I’m stirring into your cup of inspiration today, he says, “So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God.”
When you drink down the contents of your cup, you will be reminded to take your focus off your circumstances or anyone you might feel is responsible for what you’re going through. Know that, as long as you are living righteously before God, obeying His commands and doing His will, His plan for your life will come together.
Just as His word assures in Romans 8:28, you can be confident that all things truly will work out for your good in the end! Trust Him.
Now let’s pray.
God, I’ve seen a lot of hard days and endured what seemed like unfair circumstances. But today, I choose not to dwell on all that has gone wrong. Rather, I choose to trust that You will make it alright. I believe, as Jeremiah 29:11 says, that Your plans for me are good, just as You are. Thank You in advance for what is already done. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, encourage, and empower you!
