In my
previous blog post, I talked to you about not trying to figure God out and I
feel led to go in that same direction today.
A few years ago, one of our daughters asked me an interesting question. She said, "Mommy, I can see my hands, my feet, my legs, and other things without looking in the mirror. Why can't I see my eyes?"
She then looked at me with a questioning gaze.
"Why can't you see your eyes? Hmm, that's a good question,” I responded, trying desperately to come up with an intelligent answer.
My husband Kenya and I have four children. As you might imagine, they ask us lots of why questions.
"Well," I said slowly, faintly hearing my husband's stifled laughter behind me as I squirmed, "our eyes are used to look at other things. We are only able to see through them, but we can never look at them, unless we have a mirror."
Of course, this probably wasn't the most cogent argument in the world, but hey, it seemed to satisfy her curiosity at the time.
"Oh," she said thoughtfully, nodding slowly and visibly processing the new information. "So, we can only see the reflection of our eyes in something else?"
"Exactly," I smiled.
I always do my best to answer the children’s curious queries, because uncertainty is uncomfortable. We all like to know things. It’s just human nature to want to piece together the complex puzzles life presents.
But as we grow older, we learn that answers are not always readily available to us, no matter how badly we want to make sense of things.
I’m sure you can testify to this.
There are times when God will take you down a path that seemingly makes no sense. Your life will feel like a series of contradictions. During these periods you wonder, what in the world is going on? Why does God have me going down this crazy road?
I've so been there and here's what I can tell you about coming out on the other side.
I want you to know that, even though you don't understand it, your road has a purpose—a very distinct one. God is using your current situation to prepare you for the awesome things He will do in your life.
Without these particular experiences, however, there would be no way that you would be able to handle what's coming-- and I don't mean that in a bad way.
You see, God strategically places you in situations that stretch and challenge you. But don't focus on the fact that you don't understand His plan. Just know He has one and He's dressing you right now for your future.
Through this experience, He's teaching you some new, necessary and pertinent things essential to the fulfillment of your destiny. These, my friend, are the lessons that will positively change the course of your life and draw you closer toward purpose.
Just hang in there and stay on the path. Trust God to be your teacher. I'm telling you, He's the best One anywhere!
To encourage you through your time of uncertainty, I'm stirring Isaiah 48:17b NIV into your cup of inspiration. It says, “I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.”
When you drink down the contents of your cup, you will realize that, right where you are, the Lord is giving you invaluable experience, and important lessons to benefit you greatly in the future.
So instead of worrying about when it will all come together, live in the moment and absorb everything He’s imparting to you.
Let’s pray.
If you need prayer, don't hesitate to request it. I would be honored to stand in faith with You. I know that prayer works. CLICK HERE to learn how to submit your prayer request.
God, though I don’t understand everything I’m facing, I am asking for Your guidance. Your word promises me that if I acknowledge You in all my ways, You will direct my path. So I’m leaning completely and totally upon you, and I thank You in advance for showing me the way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
