Our youngest son Kaleb turned 7 Saturday.
When he awoke that morning, he announced that he wanted to go over an English homeschooling lesson.“You do?” I asked, surprised. To me, it seemed an unusual request, but I obliged him.
We sat down together to review some concepts that had challenged him the day before. But on March 16, young Mr. Hobbs aced his lesson and had no struggles grasping what formerly seemed pretty tough to master.
I gave him a high-five with every right answer. You should have seen his little eyes just shining. The Birthday boy was so proud of himself.
After we finished his impromptu class session, he got up with an added spring in his step.
Then, just before walking through the doorway he turned back to me and said, “Maybe I can do it now because I’m 7 and I’m older.”
I said, “Yeah, maybe so buddy,” and let out a giggle once he was out of sight. As I told you, we had just gone over that same information the day before and he didn’t quite coast through it.
But, in his mind, his new age meant he had officially crossed over to big boy status. So he no longer grappled with the same issues as he did when he was 6.
Friend, our status in our mind has to change before it ever will in our life. How we see ourselves, what we believe about our abilities and the lens through which we view the world, determines our outcomes.
Kaleb believed he was different the morning of his birthday. Therefore, his belief made it so in his life. It did not matter what I thought about him. I was confident in his capabilities at 6 years old. But he had to see it.
So do you.
How others perceive you is not important. It is what you believe about yourself that matters.
This year, work on seeing yourself as God sees you. Psalm 139:14 says that you are “fearfully and wonderfully made.”
You are gifted, anointed, capable, intelligent, creative and capable of doing anything God has placed in your heart to do.
To help you to see you are equipped to be and have all God has predestined for you, I’m stirring Mark 9:23 NLT into your cup of inspiration. It says, "'What do you mean, 'If I can'? Jesus asked. "'Anything is possible if a person believes.'"
When you drink down the contents of your cup, you will be reminded that your faith activates your power.
God has already put so much down inside of you, but until you see it in your mind, you cannot see it come forth in your life.
Have faith in you.
Now let’s pray.
God, I sometimes struggle to see and recognized the value I have and the gifts You have placed inside me. Today, I pray that You will renew my mentality and open my eyes to see the wonderful treasure I am in Your Kingdom, so that I can do all and be all You have called me to. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
If you need prayer, don't hesitate to request it. I would be honored to stand in faith with You. I know that prayer works. CLICK HERE to learn how to submit your prayer request.
