I recently bought a pair of shoes
from Macy’s.
When I slipped my foot into them, they felt a little tight. But I figured, hey, I’ll break the shoes in and they’ll loosen up after I walk in them a bit.
I was concerned that, if I went up a half size, after the leather stretched, the extra room might be too much. These were peep toe platforms, so my foot was positioned on an incline.
More internal space, I thought, might cause sliding inside the shoe and I had no desire to walk around with high heel “flip-flops.”
So I purchased them as they were.
Well, when I unpacked my shoes at home and stuck my foot in, they felt even tighter. My poor toes were screaming!
No ma’am. No sir.
“This is not gonna work out,” I told my husband Kenya. “I’m definitely going to have to exchange them for a bigger size.”
Trying to force fit something that wasn’t working was too painful. Instead of cramming my tootsies into those tight shoes, no matter how cute, I admitted my mistake and settled upon a new course of action.
Lesson learned.
Sometimes, we think we can make things work that really don’t suit us. In our minds, despite the discomfort we feel, we forge ahead anyway.
Then, after we take ourselves through unnecessary pain, we are hit with a harsh reality that says, this right here, ain’t working boo.
The sooner we admit our error in judgment and correct our course, the quicker we can free ourselves from harmful circumstances, hurtful situations, and unnecessary drama.
Today, the simple message in this post is, if the shoe doesn’t fit, child, don’t force it. It’s not worth it.
Let God lead you and help you discover a better, more effective way of going about things. He knows exactly what is suited to your needs in every area. So don’t get set in your ways, thinking you know what is best for you, because you don’t.
And we we do get too clever for our own good and a little "too big for our britches," the Lord, in His infinite wisdom, knows just how to chop us back down to size, doesn't he?
He will allow things to crumble and fall apart, so His much greater and better plan can come together.
To remind you of this truth, I’m stirring Proverbs 16:9 NLT into your cup of inspiration. It says, “We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.”
When you drink down the contents of your cup, you will be reminded of the importance of remaining agile, flexible and malleable in God’s hands. He is the Potter. You are the clay. Let HIm mold and shape you into what He wants you to be.
Now let’s pray.
God, sometimes, I can get so focused on what I’m trying to do, that I fail to focus on the way You want me to do it. Please forgive me for my anxiousness. Help me to be more sensitive to Your voice and willing to be led by You. Every time I feel tempted to do things my way, remind me that it will cause confusion. But when I submit to Your plan, I will find peace and prosperity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
If you need prayer, don't hesitate to request it. I would be honored to stand in faith with You. I know that prayer works. CLICK HERE to learn how to submit your prayer request.
