My mom
called me today with hardly any voice. Both she and my dad are battling nasty
colds. “I wanted to come to the service so badly last night,” she squeaked.
I really had to press my ear to the phone to even make out my mother’s words. She sounded so pitiful—just as bad as I did back in December when the flu placed a mean smack-down on me, forcing the cancellation of a revival.
Earlier this week, my husband Kenya, whose immune system is typically very strong, began showing signs that he didn’t escape the germs floating around either. When he developed a temperature and started exhibiting other cold symptoms, I knew his poor body was being worked overtime.
I prayed for him yesterday and also sent up a request to heaven on my own behalf.
“Lord, please cover me,” I pleaded.
I had to minister last evening and I wasn’t feeling quite so well. By the time I arrived at the church and walked into the large Sanctuary at Deliverance Temple COGIC, I was in awful shape.
I followed behind the usher as she led me to my seat next to District Missionary Kimberli Webster. My entire body was trembling.
Then, when Lady Webster got up to have words, she talked about how she almost didn’t make it to the service last evening. She had been in the ER and was experiencing some serious symptoms.
She wasn't operating at 100% but pressed her way anyhow. She had that "I won't quit" resolve necessary to keep going when the going gets tough.
Midway through the worship service, as the choir was singing, though I was still shaky, I stood up and clapped my hands. I praised God with everything I had because I was not about to let the enemy have his way and cancel my assignment.
I refused to let the devil win. I had to pray, press, and praise my way through.
And you know what?
About 20 minutes into the message, I felt my strength. The power of God took over and had His own way in that place.
So today, whatever you might be going through, I want you to tell yourself, "I won't quit" in midst the of this intense battle.
I won't quit believing; praying; praising; reading my word; and remaining positive about my situation. While your destiny is under attack, don’t concede defeat.
Fight back.
The enemy does not want you to be victorious. He desires to keep you bound, distracted, and hindered. But you have the power to bind and triumph over him because the Greater One lives inside you.
Use the power you have!
Does that mean you won’t ever experience setbacks or temporary inconveniences? No. We all deal with life's struggles during certain seasons. It is a part of the human experience. And yet, we have supernatural power and authority to resist the enemy.
How?
When you feel like you can’t pray, just pray harder. When it seems like you’re too weak to go on, press forward. And when your circumstances say you’re defeated, praise God for victory anyway. Don't quit.
Breakthrough is already yours anyway because you are empowered by the Holy Spirit to overcome the enemy’s tactics.
To remind you of this truth, I’m stirring Isaiah 59:19b KJV into your cup of inspiration, which says, “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.”
When you drink down the contents of your cup, you’ll realize that you have a greater power dwelling within fighting on your behalf, and securing your victory at every turn.
Even when you come up against adversity and problems, the God you serve is greater than them all.
Now let’s pray.
God, when the enemy comes against me to attack me, help me not to surrender, but to fight back using the spiritual weapons You have given me. Today, renew my confidence, boldness, courage, and determination to tap into the power I possess as a victorious overcomer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, encourage, and empower you!
