When I was younger, I would close myself up in my bedroom for hours and just read. Whenever I heard, “Dianna, time to eat!” I’d grunt with displeasure, resenting the interruption.
Like an exotic vacation to a faraway land, books offered me an escape from the mundaneness of everyday life. Pouring over pages and digesting someone else’s perspective was a treat. Whether a fictitious story, or a historical biblical account of the conquests of great leaders in the Old Testament, reading always swept me away.
I loved it and still do.
I remember being misunderstood by siblings and peers from time-to-time. They didn’t know why I preferred the comfort of solitude more than the company of friends.
But I had a natural curiosity and an insatiable hunger to learn, know more, and explore beyond the confines of my immediate surroundings.
Little did I know, back then, the Lord was preparing me at a young age to live a life of purpose, which so often draws me away from the crowd. Daily, I must find myself immersed in the word of God, seeking His will, and resisting society’s modern conventions that keep our attention fragmented.
As a leader, having laser-like focus on what matters most is critical.
In this season, if you sense God challenging you to be more focused and resolute than ever before, obey Him. Even when various things and situations arise to pull you away from your purpose, ignore them.
Let 2013 be your year of prioritizing what is important and placing a higher value upon what God has told you to do, than people’s opinions of what you should do.
True visionaries are willing to sacrifice for their calling. They know that if they don’t, their God-given dreams, though achievable, will never be attained. So they refuse to succumb to outside pressures, to avoid the risk of veering from their set path.
Daily Cup family, being the person God created you to be takes great fortitude and unwavering resolve. It requires a commitment to the will and way of the Father.
It mandates a willingness to subtract and extract from your life what the enemy uses to attract your attention as a means to distract you from what truly matters—your destiny.
But if you will set your heart on doing the will of God and extract what distracts, the Lord will use you in mighty ways.
To help you do this, I’m stirring Ephesians 4:1 NIV into your cup of inspiration. It says, “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”
When you drink down the contents of your cup, you will be empowered to walk in your God-given purpose and resist the allure of flesh-driven pursuits that lead you away from destiny.
My friend, God has great things in store for your life as you sacrifice for the sake of His calling.
“I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you...” (Ephesians 1:18a NIV)
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, encourage, and empower you!
