My husband Kenya and I made stuffed mushrooms this past Sunday. They were so delicious.
Although the boys immediately loved them, the girls, who are less adventurous and a bit more finicky when it comes to food, were not as impressed.
“Suit yourself!” Kenya and I shrugged. “That just means more for us…yum!”
After enjoying our main course, we refrigerated the leftover appetizers and planned to reheat and eat them later. Neither of us anticipated that the girls’ opinion of the stuffed mushrooms would change so dramatically in the span of a single day.
By Monday afternoon, the “food cupid” came and shot Kyla and Kaiah with an arrow. Suddenly, they loved the flavor of what was “just okay” the previous day.
The Hobbs clan ate them all before Kenya and I had the opportunity to enjoy any more.
Oh well.
At least they’re broadening their palates and embracing new things—which makes most of us very uncomfortable. But you know what? Change can be good…really good. But we have to first be open to it before it can take place.
So many times in our lives we stay stuck in the same place because we are too afraid of altering our methods, learning new ways of operating, and being exposed to unfamiliar people, things, and territory.
But I believe that in 2013, God wants to stretch us. You see, He knows that sticking to the familiar for too long and refusing to grow will inhibit and prohibit us from moving forward into destiny.
That’s why, every once in a while, God will shake things up. He’ll stir our nest and take us outside our comfort zone, not to hurt us, but to help us.
Although we might not like it so much at first, as we open our hearts and allow God to transform our minds, we will see just how wonderful the new place He’s taking us really is.
Today, I encourage you to remain open to God’s will.
Know that He has good things up ahead for you, but it will require some changes. And once you embrace the new thing He’s doing, it will be such a great blessing to you.
To remind you of this truth, I’m stirring Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV into your cup of inspiration. It says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
When you drink down the contents of your cup today, you will be prepared to walk with the Lord through unfamiliar territory. Though change may feel unpleasant, you will take comfort in the fact that God is walking with you and leading you to your place of purpose.
You don’t have to be afraid of change when you know you aren’t going through changes alone. God is there!
Now let’s pray.
God, change is difficult and transition feels uncomfortable. But as I go through unfamiliar territory, I will remember that, in Isaiah 43:2, you promise to be with me in every circumstance. I can go through anything as long as You are there with me. Thank You Lord for always helping, keeping, and leading me! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, encourage, and empower you!
