In public, I seem extroverted to many people. But in “the quiet,” I’m introverted and prefer silence, solitude, and simplicity.
That’s why I’m thankful that God knows how to minister to the private Dianna, so He can use me in public. He knows my vulnerabilities and understands that I don’t prefer to be out front. But He fortifies me so I don’t shrink away from my divine purpose in life.
A lot of people have things they grapple with privately that no one knows but God, and sometimes maybe those closest to them.
This makes me think about a Suspense Thriller I saw a while ago called “The Quiet” about a girl whose deaf father passed away after being struck by an oncoming car. After he died, she lived her life as a hearing impaired person. Those around her who assumed she could not hear—the fact that she could hear is not even revealed to the audience until much later in the film—said such mean things about her and to her.
Then, there were particular people who would, ironically, use the presumed deaf girl as a sounding board. They somehow felt safe disclosing their inner most thoughts and feelings… as long as those revelations remained inaudible to anyone other than them.
The fascinating premise of the film reveals some real truth about the character of people. We all have two sides or two faces—a public face and a private one.
I’m not talking about being two-faced, untrustworthy, or scandalous, although some individuals are perfidious. And that’s too bad. Some struggle with closeted sin and need deliverance. If that’s you, God is able to set you free if you really want to change.
But for the purposes of this post, I’m speaking more to our private, vulnerable, weak, unsure side that manifests when no one else can hear or see us.
This private side gives the most accurate and authentic picture of who we are.
Who are you in the quiet? What challenges you when no one is looking?
Whatever it is, I encourage you to do what I do, and give it over to the Lord. Let Him work on you, minister to you, heal you, and strengthen you.
Let God refine the person you are in the quiet, so you won’t be hindered by that in the open.
To remind you to take your struggles to the Lord, I’m stirring Hebrews 4:16 NLT into your cup of inspiration that says, “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
When you drink down the contents of your cup, you will be reminded that God’s grace is available to you. God cares about your personal needs, private struggles, and difficult battles. And when you come to Him, His grace is enough to sustain you both in the quiet and in the open.
Isn’t that good to know?
Now let’s pray.
God, You know me in and out. You created me. My personality, my needs, and struggles are no surprise to You. So today, I pray for grace. I’m coming boldly to Your throne asking You to be my strength, help, and deliverance. You are my source of everything. Thank You for understanding and ministering to the person I truly am, so You can help me become the person You want me to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, encourage, and empower you!
