I spied it when I first entered the store. It was standing tall in the middle of the floor and I was instantly drawn to it like metal to a magnet. Not just me, but several others were gazing at it and sizing it up. Immediately, I pulled out my cell phone to snap a picture of the beautifully detailed oak wood Display Case.
“This is gorgeous,” I texted my husband Kenya while walking around and examining the intricate woodwork from top to bottom. “But I think it might be a little big.”
Convinced I wanted to buy it—I had been looking for something like this for our dining room—I asked the salesman what the exact measurements were on the sophisticated piece of furniture. Once he told me, I passed that information along to Kenya so we could do a comparison.
“It might be a little tight, but I think it’ll fit through the doorway,” Kenya assured me.
So I excitedly made the purchase, eager for it to be delivered to our home. I knew it would blend perfectly with the décor.
Turns out, Kenya was right. It fit through the doorway.
But then we ran into a slight problem. The construction of our narrow front hallway made it difficult to maneuver the large wooden case around the sharp corner leading into the large living room. You should have seen me standing, watching, cringing (Praying they didn’t knick my walls!), and hoping this all would work out well in the end.
Welp.
It didn’t.
No matter how badly I wanted it to fit, the piece was simply too large.
Man.
And there was nothing I could do about it except watch that piece of furniture be carried out the same way it was brought in.
What a perfect metaphor for life. When we desire and go after things we don’t have the capacity to handle, we end up biting off much more than we can chew.
Ever done that?
If so, you know just how it feels to invest time, resources, and energy into something that ends up not working out.
That's why we must trust in God, not ourselves. For it is He who gives us both the divine mandate and the capacity to fulfill it. But if we charge forward without God's approval, we will most assuredly find ourselves in a situation where our duties exceed our capacity.
As I say all the time, whomever God calls, He equips. Amen? If He gives you a vision, He’ll make provision for it.
That's why today, I’m stirring a small excerpt from The Principles and Power of Vision by Dr. Myles Munroe into your daily cup of inspiration. It says, “God gives ability to fulfill responsibility. Therefore, when you discover your dream, you will also discover your ability. God will never call you to an assignment without giving you the provision for accomplishing it. If you understand this principle, no one can stop you from fulfilling your vision.”
When you drink down the contents of your daily cup, you'll be inspired to do what God has called you to do without worry or fear. And you will be more confident in your God-given capacity and anointing to fulfill your destiny.
Lord, thank You for this word of wisdom today. Please teach me to always trust that You know my capacity and would never call me to complete an assignment You did not already equip me to handle. Right now, I rest in You and trust in Your sovereignty. In Jesus' name, Amen.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, encourage, and empower you!
