It is a green argyle sweater vest.
But Kaleb has repurposed it as a superhero cape.
And yes, it is as ridiculous and hilarious as it sounds. Imagine his rail thin, 5-year-old frame darting back and forth through the house with all the intensity of a sci-fi warrior sent to save the universe.
My dear boy is on an imaginary mission that is all-too-real for him. So, each time, before he runs off, little Kaleb cocks his body and head to the side, bends his elbows, furrows his brows, and then dashes away.
His caricature-like motions and expressions had both me and my husband Kenya in stitches last night! "That is your son," I told his dad, pretending to want to distance myself from the tomfoolery. "Well, your genes are stronger than mine, so he got that extra serving of crazy from you and your family's side," he retorted sarcastically.
Too funny.
The whole thing started when Kaleb took an interest in checking out an online episode of the PBS show, WordGirl this week. The main character, WordGirl, is an animated superhero who fights crime using her extensive vocabulary along with her monkey sidekick, Captain Huggy Face.
Ever since tuning in, that boy ain't been right, y'all.
I need you to pray that he doesn't try to blast himself through a wall or something, okay?
Po' thang.
His green argyle "cape" has to be washed today, too, so I don't know how happy he's going to be about that.
As hubby and I were sharing laughs about Kaleb last night, it helped to buffer the cold hard reality that, with the passing of Kenya's dad this week, he has now lost both his parents in less than a 2-year span.
Yeah.
That's pretty tough.
But the peace of God has been so present in our house throughout this season. We can both feel all your prayers, so please keep them coming.
Yesterday, Kenya and I spent a lot of time swapping stories, reflecting, and just being together. When you lose loved ones and see how fleeting life is, you value time and special moments more. You realize what matters and what doesn't. You hold your family closer and laugh much more heartily at silly moments like Kaleb's WordGirl-inspired superhero phase.
You grow more thankful daily, even when life isn't perfect, because you know that tomorrow isn't promised to any of us. Just being here in the land of the living, despite what you might be facing, is reason enough to give God thanks.
So today, I'm adding 1 Thessalonians 5:18ESV into your cup of inspiration. It says, "give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." When you drink down the contents of your cup, even during the most difficult times in your life, you will see many reasons to give thanks.
Even if it's simply for the joy of finding laughter in a repurposed argyle sweater vest worn by a 5-year-old pseudo superhero.

Lord, today I'm thankful for a heart of thanksgiving even in imperfect circumstances. As I endure life's tests, You continue to reveal the ways and reasons to remain grateful through them all. Please help me not to allow dark storm clouds to block my view of Your goodness, nor cause me to stop giving thanks for every blessing, great or small. In Jesus' name, Amen.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, empower, and encourage you!
