“Mommy look!”
5-year-old Kaleb called out to me while standing in the middle of the lush green field at the park. He, like his older siblings, wanted me to watch his bubble-making technique. So I shifted my focus to his pint-sized frame as he dipped his wand in the red cylinder-shaped bubble container. When he pulled it out, instead of blowing as I expected, Kaleb elevated the wand and stood motionless.
As I waited for Kaleb’s grand demonstration, after several seconds passed, I saw nothing happening. He wasn’t moving, nor were there any bubbles in sight. Still, I silently observed while enjoying our Father’s Day outing. Yesterday, my husband Kenya wanted to make it an all-day family affair. We hung out by the water; fed seagulls; ate way too much ice cream; played Frisbee in the park; blew bubbles, which the kids really love doing; and later indulged in a delicious dinner that still has me feeling sluggish
The whole day was exhaustingly fun.
“What is he doing?” I sat on a bench in the shaded area beneath a large tree wondering and studying Kaleb’s statue-like posture. I pulled my gray sweater closed as a cool breeze crept up my back.
And that’s when it happened.
Suddenly, I noticed lots of big iridescent round bubbles being carried by the wind. One right after the other, they escaped from Kaleb’s wand in clusters.
“Wow!” I gasped, genuinely surprised and impressed with the non-stop flow. Kaleb just looked at me proudly and smiled, never shifting his position. While his older brother and sisters’ exhalation exercises produced minimal results, my baby boy was effortlessly filling the atmosphere with gleaming circles. He had discovered that, all he needed to do was position his plastic bubble-making device directly in the flow of the wind. Each time the invisible force blew, Kaleb, who stayed in that place, reaped the greatest benefits.
His big sister Kaiah, 9, noticed his technique and decided to hold up her wand. Only, she was turned in the opposite direction. So when the wind blew, she didn’t experience similarly favorable results. “Turn around honey!” I called out, trying to help. “Change your direction so the wind can blow through your wand.”
Sure enough, she made the adjustment and voilà, a deluge of bubbles appeared!
Our divine destiny works just like that.
When the wind of the Holy Spirit blows, all we need to do is get in position to move with the flow of the Spirit. When we do this, we don’t have to manipulate or orchestrate circumstances to flow in our favor. God does that on our behalf.
Again, our job is simply to get into position. God’s job is to bring things into fruition. Amen?
Just as Kaleb stood still and allowed the wind to do its work, we must do the same thing in our pursuit of God's plan for our lives. So today, I want to put a portion of Psalm 46:10 in your cup of inspiration. It says, “Be still, and know that I am God…”
When you drink down this "Word-enhanced" freshly brewed cup, it will empower you to lay down your own plans, efforts, and agenda, and wholly lean on the Savior.
Can't you sense that it’s time to be still and get in position?
If so, internalize what Psalm 91:1-2NKJV tells us: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “'He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.'”
Lord, please forgive me for all the times I have failed to trust You and tried to do things my way, only to end up frustrated. Thank You for reminding me that when I give up control and position myself to move in the flow of the Spirit, You are then able to fulfill Your will for my life. From this moment on, Oh God, I surrender all! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
As always, thanks for reading, and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, empower, and encourage you.
