As we go deeper into spring and inch rapidly closer toward the summer months ahead, the kids are sharing their wishlist full of places they want to go. Our family tries to take advantage of the warm seasons, since, in Buffalo, it stays cold for the better part of the year.
The Hobbs clan plans to have lots of fun at the zoo, park, beach, museum, aquarium, and of course, the amusement park. But, I must admit, I'm not a huge fan of the amusement park. The scary rides and roller coasters aren't remotely amusing to me. They terrify me, in fact.
When I was younger, I was the "chicken" in the group. Even with the coaxing of a brave relative or friend, I can count on one hand the number of times I strapped in for a roller coaster ride. I was always the one frantically screaming "Let me off!" My cries, however, would consistently come too late. So I would simply have to endure the torturous excursion, and yell my head off through bumpy twists, turns, and steep drops, that always left my stomach doing flips.
Whether physical or emotional, I prefer to avoid roller coasters at all costs. Nevertheless, during trying seasons, I find that my emotions can sometimes mimic their long, winding tracks. I'm sure you can relate to that as well.
As we face life's toughest challenges, we experience ups and downs, highs and lows.
And yet, there is something within that, like a roller coaster's chest harness or metal bar, keeps us anchored during the most uncertain times. It is our faith in God's sovereignty; our confidence in His ability to sustain us through every test; the Holy Spirit who brings the word of the Lord to our remembrance when we are at our lowest point; our passionate love for God; and a genuine desire to honor Him with our worship in the midst of our brokenness.
Thank God for something on the inside that helps us deal with the struggles on the outside. Amen?
So today, I want to sprinkle "something" in your daily cup of inspiration that helps me when life gets hard. That something is a total dependency on God, who is our refuge, strength, and a present help in the time of trouble (Psalm 46:1).
TODAY'S PRAYER: Father, thank You for being my solid rock through all of life's ups and downs. Through twists and turns, highs and lows, remind me that what I possess within is enough to sustain me through whatever I must face. For You, oh God, are living on the inside of me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
