Raindrops gently tapped at my window this morning, as soft gray light pushed its way through the overcast sky. The dim glow sent lively shadows dancing across my walls.
"Uh, mom," said a small, tender voice, disrupting the quiet stillness. It was my 12-year-old daughter, Kyla, stepping gingerly into my bedroom, holding her Bible in her hands.
"Morning Pooh!" I called her by her pet name and flashed an inviting smile. "What's up?"
"Well, I woke up with this scripture in my mind that I've never read before."
"Really?" I sat up straighter, eager to hear it. "Will you read it for me?"
"Okay, it's Psalm 28:9," Kyla said. She leaned over her Bible and began reading aloud.
Save your people and bless your inheritance be their shepherd and carry them forever.
After she read that wonderful passage, we discussed its meaning together. And then I took the opportunity to instruct my oldest daughter about the significance of that moment. "This is what it means for God to speak to you through His word," I told Kyla as her eyes sparkled with fascination.
It was a real moment, not just because the Lord was communing with my daughter--something I constantly pray for--but also, because He confirmed something for me through that scripture.
You see, God laid it on my heart yesterday to study Psalm 28. In fact, I even shared a portion of a verse from this exact Psalm in Monday's post.
To refresh your memory, I'll just share Psalm 28:7 in its entirety here:
The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.
As you might imagine, as my daughter sat reading from the same Psalm God planted in my heart one day prior, my spirit leaped within me. I knew He was confirming what He had placed in my heart, and reminding me that He is indeed my help.
Let me show you how God works.
This morning, I had no idea that a few hours later I would receive some unexpected, disturbing news. But God, who is omniscient, knew what I would be facing today. So, He sent my sweet child into my room early this morning, to fortify my spirit before the storm ever hit.
Had it not been for God putting me in remembrance of His word, I may have handled the news differently. Oh, but I thank Him for reminding me of the word I needed to get me through this test!
Who wouldn't want to serve a God like mine?
So today, I want to put a little reminder in your daily cup.
John 14:26 (NIV) says, "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."
Whenever tests and trials come, the Holy Spirit will put you in remembrance of God's word. He will remind you that He is your keeper, sustainer, healer, redeemer, savior, and present help in your time of need.
No matter where you are, He will use whomever or whatever He chooses, just to reach you... even your 12 year old daughter.
TODAY'S PRAYER: God, thank You for reminding me that You are my help in the midst of trouble. Whenever I go through struggles, please let me always remember Your faithfulness and acknowledge Your unfailing compassion toward me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
