Good afternoon! Hope your Monday is off to a wonderful start. Mine has been pretty eventful already. I woke up earlier than usual today, so I could have some extra time to work on an important project I needed to finish. It's always easiest for me to work early in the morning or late at night, because that's when I'm typically able to get things done with little or no interruption.
Well, everything seemed to be going well at first. I was feeling excited and optimistic about my progress... until I began checking my work. That's when I realized I had been repeating the same mistake throughout my entire project. That meant I needed to go back and do lots of stuff over again!
Immediately my shoulders slumped. I covered my eyes with my hand and mumbled, "No, no, no, no!" I was not happy about having to repeat tedious steps I thought I had successfully finished. For about five minutes, I paused, felt discouraged, and stared blankly at the wall (as if the wall could help me). I grew more exhausted by the minute just thinking about how much I had to do all over again.
Sigh.
But then, the Holy Spirit spoke to me ever so gently and said, "Just begin doing it." Seems like a simple enough command, right? Why didn't I think of that in the first place?
Once I began working, those steps I was so greatly dreading, turned out not to be so bad after all. In fact, the process went by much more quickly than I thought it would; I was done in about an hour. I had worked myself up for nothing. Thank God for that little nudge He gave me to help me not to waste any more time making a mountain out of a molehill.
Sometimes we expend too much energy worrying unnecessarily, and fretting over things, when we need to follow the instructions the Holy Spirit gave me, and just do it.
Once you begin, you'll likely find out that the toughest part was getting started.
TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, sometimes situations in my life arise that stir up anxiety, disappointment, and fear of the worst. But today, I ask that You will help me worry less about the problem, and give me the confidence to courageously do what I can do, and trust You to do the rest. As I go forward, please remind me Lord, that You are with me, holding my hand every step of the way. In Jesus' name, Amen.
