I have been completely out of commission for the past couple days and I missed you guys terribly! It all began over the week-end when I was walking around the mall and noticed a dull aching in my pelvic area. It seemed odd for me to begin hurting so suddenly, but I shrugged it off and continued doing what I had to do. Well, Saturday, I wasn’t feeling a hundred percent, but I had a video shoot to finish. We didn’t wrap until around 8:00 in the evening, and I felt like a truck had hit me after that.
The next day, my rapid downward spiral began, and I’ve been in pretty bad shape this week.
You see, seven years ago, after giving birth to my oldest son Kedar (8lbs 6ozs), my pelvis dislocated as a result of the intense pressure created by carrying such a big baby. I had to go through months of therapy just to be able to walk normally, without excruciating pain. My body was seriously out of alignment, and it took consistent therapeutic exercise, prayer, and lots of patience, to get back to normal.
Every now and then, when I need rest and recuperation, my body gets out of alignment, as it did this week. So, I’ve been flat on my back! I had to cancel appointments, delegate my work, and take a load off for a few days. Thankfully, I feel better today.
You know, sometimes we all get out of alignment—not just physically, but spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. When this happens, certain signs will indicate that something needs to change. Although those indicators are uncomfortable, don’t fight against them. They serve as helpful warning signs. In my case, the pain I felt let me know I needed to sit myself down for a few days and chill out!
Are you out of alignment in a specific area of your life? Are you feeling overwhelmed, depleted, exhausted, or even depressed? If so, don’t ignore those signs.
You may need to pray and study God’s word to realign your spirit; give yourself time alone to realign your mind; acknowledge your feelings and cater to your own needs for a change, to realign your emotions.
I know being out of alignment in any capacity is hard, painful, exhausting, and unhealthy. So, if you’re feeling like you just might be out of balance, don’t be afraid to steal away. Claim a moment (or a few) for yourself, so God can minister to your needs, and help you reemerge with renewed peace, clarity, and strength.
TODAY’S PRAYER: God, I truly thank you for the signs of imbalance in my life, however uncomfortable they may be. Help me use those indicators as incentives to do what is necessary to get back in alignment. Right now, I ask You for the wisdom to make the changes necessary to realign my life according to Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
