“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.” (1 Peter 5:6 NKJV)
I posted one of my old blog headers above. It’s evolved quite a bit over time, huh?
And, you probably noticed that this site is a little bit different from the one I most recently had. Although the designers managed to keep a few elements from my previous blog design in tact, I’m still adjusting to this one.
Up until this point, I had been utilizing the same blog since the very beginning of my blogging journey more than 3 years ago. You know, after all the posts I wrote on my other blog were imported into this new format, the technicians said, “Do you know you have over 1,000 posts you’ve written?”
No, I didn’t know that.
Somewhere along the way I suppose I lost count. Reflecting back on the early days, however, it’s funny to think about how I just started writing without knowing much of anything about blogging really. The only thing I was sure of, was the fact that God had given me something to say.
I was just content doing what I felt called by God to do, and that was the most important thing. Not accolades. Not how many readers I had. Not trying to promote anything in particular. I just had a true desire to be used by God to touch someone else’s life.
That’s the way God wants us to be.
In fact, I was just having this conversation with my almost-12-year-old daughter, Kyla, who is a budding writer and illustrator. I don’t know where she got the ability to sketch such beautiful pictures from! Certainly not from her creatively-challenged mom and dad.
“If you believe God has called you to write and illustrate books,” I told my doe-eyed tween as she listened attentively, “then you do it for His glory. You have to love what God has called you to do so much, that if no one ever paid you to do it, you would do it anyway.”
I want Kyla to know that submission to the will of God is most important. Submission always precedes elevation of any kind. While there’s nothing wrong with trusting God to prosper your endeavors (You should never expect failure and defeat!), you can’t carry out your divine mandate only thinking about the exaltation part. If you do, when you don’t immediately see the fruit of your labor, you’ll grow discouraged and be tempted to give up.
So I admonish you to allow your desire for God’s will to be accomplished in your life, to be the driving force behind all you do. When you seek His heart, I know from experience that He’ll prosper you in ways you never thought possible.
Today’s prayer: God, please give me a heart that longs to glorify you. And help me to commit my life to pleasing you, not for vainglory, praise, or recognition, but so that You will pleased with me everyday. And Father, I thank You for the confidence to know that if I seek You first, everything else will be added to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
As always, thanks for reading, and until next time… may today’s cup of inspiration empower, motivate, and inspire you!
