Remember I shared the news that my baby sister Alesha was getting married this week-end? The ceremony was beautiful! As I told you before, I had to sing a song I'm not familiar with (Golden by Chrisette Michelle). Sooooo, how did it go you ask?
Well, pull up a chair.
All day Saturday was pretty crazy. I had a million things to do, including my baby sis's make up for the big day. By the time I got to her house, I was already running behind schedule, but still, things went well and she looked even more beautiful than she already does everyday.
Okay so, after finishing her face, with only 45 minutes to spare before the wedding, I flew out the door, took a wrong turn, ended up miles away from home, with no gas, and no money to pay toll.
You know why?
Because I had forgotten my purse at home with all my money in it! So, there I am, the "wedding singer," sitting on the side of the road thinking, "God, please say this isn't happening!"
But it was happening. And there wasn't a thing I could do about it.
Instead of panicking, which I felt like doing with every fiber of my being, I realized that wouldn't change anything. Although I didn't anticipate this set of circumstances, I had to make the best of a bad situation.
And to make a long story short, my brother came to rescue me. I never did make it home to get dressed because Alesha cried and balled her eyes out, and insisted that I come to the wedding anyway to sing Golden! There was no way she was letting me miss that. And who can say no to a distraught bride? I didn't want to ruin her special day.
So, guess what I ended up doing?
In the same leggings and stained t-shirt I'd been wearing all morning, I had to walk out in front of a jam-packed church full of people (that probably thought I had lost my mind), slide onto a keyboard bench off to the side, and sing for my baby sister while sitting down. Oh yeah... while reading the lyrics off my blackberry.
Just... wow.
Thankfully, I had applied a bit of make up while waiting for my brother Joe (the only thing I did have with me). And my hair was semi-decent. So I only looked totally crazy from the neck down! :-)
The lesson here? Sometimes, things don't go as planned. But panicking won't change it or fix it. The best thing to do is go with the flow and trust God for a sufficient resolution.
After the wedding, I hurried home and changed into more, uh, "appropriate" attire in time for the reception. And Alesha was happy.
Today's Prayer: Lord, sometimes unforseen circumstances will disrupt my plans. When this happens, help me not to fret, but instead, remain confident that things will still work out well in the end.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may you be empowered to prosper!
