Pursuers of purpose, we need to talk about a lesson that dropped on me while observing the recent behaviors of my 11 year old daughter, Kyla. Lately, she has taken a special interest in wearing my clothes and shoes around the house. Every time I turn around, I'll look up and notice that she's confiscated another wardrobe item. My shoes flop on and off her feet. My shirts and dresses hang off her small frame. But still, that doesn't stop her from sporting these ill-fitting items. Of course, this is both perfectly healthy and normal for children as they mature and develop.
But once we grow up and begin walking in our purpose, we have to grow out of this habit. Otherwise, it can destroy our destiny. You see, the shoes God has called you to fill, don't fit me. We are both unique and chosen to operate in a very specific capacity. Not only that, but the method by which we complete our divine assignment differs as well.
You've got to do you instead of trying to wear shoes that don't fit you.
That's why I do my best to reject trends for the sake of trends. I don't believe in the "me too" philosophy; it's never a good practice to jump on the bandwagon simply because a bunch of people are riding it. After all, it could be headed in the opposite direction of the place God wants you to end up.
Over the years, I have learned that, just because something is popular with others, doesn't mean it's practical, necessary, or even good for me. Consider the Children of Israel for a moment. Think about how much harder they made their lives by demanding to have a King like all the other nations (1 Samuel 8:20). Remember that? God warned them that they didn't need one. But the Israelites couldn't see past the "group think" and what was popular at the time.
Just like we can't sometimes either.
But today, I encourage you to open your heart to God's leading. Take your eyes off what everyone else is doing and allow Him to do a new thing in you. Let Him show you who you are, so you can do you effectively.
See past what's popular and let the Father show you the path He wants you take. You may be surprised to find that it's the road less traveled.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may you be empowered to prosper!
