Yesterday, my youngest daughter, Kaiah, was lying across the bed reading a book. Then, as a little time passed, she was happily reciting one of those popular childhood rhymes to herself. Although I can't remember exactly which one it was, it put me in the mind of the "Miss Mary Mack" rhyme.
Remember that one? "She asked her mother, mother, mother, for fifteen cents, cents, cents, to see the elephants, elephants, elephants..."
Well, when I overheard her, I was pretty intrigued, because it immediately carried me back to my younger days at home as a kid. I thought to myself, "Wow, things really do get passed down from generation to generation."
In this case, what was "passed down" was completely innocent and harmless. But, there are some other generational patterns and behaviors that can be detrimental to us. Those, by far, are more serious and have much greater implications.
That's why, when we yield ourselves and submit to God's will for us, He reveals those areas in us that need work and transforms us by His spirit, as well as, through life's circumstances. This is done, so we won't perpetuate cycles that stunt our growth, stagnate our progress, and hinder us from becoming all God has destined us to be.
I believe that, in some way or another, you are called to be a cycle breaker. No matter what generational choices, attitudes, misconceptions, and mistakes have been passed down to you; God has given you the power to take a divergent path that leads to your divine purpose.
But, it's up to you to make those necessary changes and yield to God's leading.
Today, I want to admonish you to assess those areas in your life that may be holding you back. What habits, paradigms, and tendencies have you adopted from those that came before you (and those you grew up with) that may be unhealthy? Whatever they are, you have the power of the Holy Spirit living on the inside, that empowers you to break the cycles and cut off those patterns.
God has chosen you as His anointed vessel to do and become something different... something extraordinary for His glory. You are a cycle breaker; a trailblazer; and a catalyst for change. You can do it, "'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty" (Zechariah 4:6 NIV).
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may you be empowered to prosper!
