From time to time I'll wake up with a particular song in my heart and a praise on my lips, or it may come to me at some point during the course of my day. I love it when that happens, especially when I know God has dropped a particular melody in my spirit to soothe me and minister to a deep-rooted need.
Well, yesterday, I had a huge stack of work in front of me that needed to be done. Instead of concentrating on just one thing at a time, however, I began thinking about numerous things I needed to get done all at once. Suddenly, I heard an old song I have not heard in years, playing in my head.
It seemed like someone had turned a soundtrack on in surround sound. The song says, "If you put your trust in Jesus everything will be alright. He will make your going easy and your burdens He'll make light..."
Now, you may not be familiar with that song... it's really old. I mean, really old. Even I can't remember the last time I heard it sung. Yet, those words were just what I needed. At that very moment, peace just washed over me. That fast, God reminded me of His presence with me, before I had the chance to get lost in my own thoughts about the great tasks ahead of me.
I now know that song served as a preemptive strike, warding off worry, stress, and anxiety about what the future had in store for me.
Oh, how I love that God is mindful of us and visits us throughout our day.
When is the last time He visited you with a song, a passage of scripture, or even a word of encouragement from someone else? Whenever it occurred, I'm sure you can recall how comforting it was in that moment and indeed it was just what you needed.
As you go throughout your day, I admonish you to keep your heart open to those visitations from the Lord. Sometimes He'll come to you in subtle ways and gently remind you that you're not by yourself, no matter what you're facing.
I'm reminded of the scripture that says, "What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?" (Psalm 8:4 KJV)
It's so awesome that a great big God loves me and you enough to visit us in our time of need.
So, the next time that song drops in your spirit with just the right lyrics to minister to you, know that it's not a coincidence. It's God's way of tapping you on the shoulder and saying, "Hey, I want to visit with you today."
Be sure to tell Him, Lord, I sure do appreciate you dropping by to see about me...
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may you be empowered to prosper!
