I hate to see any of the kids hurt.
Well, after I finished making sure he was OK, doctoring on him, and cuddling him through his stifled sobs, I inquired further about exactly what he had banged his head on. "I walked into a wall," he explained. You see, Kedar has a very bad habit of not watching where he's going. He repeatedly takes steps forward, while looking backward. My husband and I often encourage him to work on this dangerous tendency.
Still, Kedar continues to do it all the time... just like many of us.
We fail to realize that we can't look ahead toward the future if we're constantly looking back. God can't take us into our new and bright destiny, if we're overly preoccupied with past failures, hurts, disappointments, and stumbles.
Many times, we give what happened "way back when" far too much power and importance. Essentially, our history becomes an invisible wall of defeat, emotional injury, and fear. Whenever we take forward steps, the enemy makes sure to hit us upside the head with everything that's ever gone wrong, just so we won't have the audacity to believe that we are not defined by our past.
Sadly, our inability to let go of what's in the past creates a giant wall that severely hinders and impedes our progress, but there's hope.
If you watch where you're going instead of where you've been, and keep your focus on where you're headed, you'll be alright. You've got to look with spiritual eyes into your future. Allow God to reveal what He has in store for you, and stop letting the enemy tie you to your past.
The Lord wants to write a new story for you, no matter what your history may be.
Don't obsess over where you've been, what you've been through, or even what you're facing right now. There is a bright future that awaits you, but you must first lose the "retrospective perspective," and stop feeding that compulsion to incessantly look backward.
Today is a new day. God wants you to see yourself in the future...
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may you be empowered to prosper!
