I must admit, I was pushing myself a bit hard, trying to honor commitments, give of myself, and accomplish far too much in one night. Well, as I sat working on a project, my cell phone buzzed. I looked down and it was a text message from a long-time friend saying, "Hey girl! How are you...just wanted to check in on you. Hope all is well!"
Her message came precisely at a moment when I was beginning to feel overwhelmed.
We sent a couple messages back and forth and then, I picked up the phone and gave her a call. As we began talking, she shared with me how important it is to step away from work sometimes and just relax, along with some other wise words, perfectly fitting for what I was going through at that moment. We laughed and chatted for about an hour, and I felt so much better after we finished conversing.
What she had to say right then, was what I needed to hear. She was telling the truth. I needed to step back, regroup, and prioritize some things. I was approaching my work the wrong way, trying to attack it all at once. So, God sent someone to help me change my perspective and my approach on things.
Long after our conversation was over, the Lord continued dealing with me about something that I'll share with you as well. There are times when there's nothing wrong with what we're doing; it's simply how we're doing it that makes the work harder, and makes us less productive. I wrote down a thought that God gave me. It says, "Sometimes we have a bad approach to doing a good thing."
For example, have you ever been telling someone the right thing, but you said it the wrong way and as a result, offended the person and made the situation worse? It's not that what you had to share wasn't good; it's just that your approach was bad.
A bad approach is the same as embarking on a journey, having the right address, but the wrong directions. Knowing your destination means nothing, if you have no knowledge of how to get there, because inevitably, you'll end up lost.
I'm thankful that the Lord gave me a better set of directions last evening, and I know He'll do the same for you if you're willing to receive divine instruction. Perhaps my personal experience serves as God's wake up call to you. He could be trying to tell you, "Hey, there's a better way to do that!"
Although your struggle might not be "work related" like mine, still, ask God what area it might apply to in your life. Whatever it is, I believe the Lord will do for you what He did for me last night, so that your directions and your destination will match up.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may you be empowered to prosper!
