As I prepared to blog today, the Lord dropped a scripture in my spirit found in John 14:27 just for you. It says, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (KJV) Right now, I want you to open yourself up to receive what God is saying to you. When you're going through hard times, it can be difficult to find a moment of tranquility and calm. Your mind races as you try to uncover solutions to problems and issues on your own. Wanna hear a pathetic funny story? A few months ago, I spotted an old ten-speed bike leaning against a wooden fence in my parents' backyard. Since I hadn't ridden in years, I hopped on the bike to see how well I remembered. You know what they say: "You never forget how to ride a bike." So, I decided to test the theory. It's the Anointing

I want you to remember that no matter where you go or what you do, without the anointing of God on your life--that is, divine empowerment which enables you to accomplish God’s purposes on earth by His Spirit--you cannot fulfill your assignment. Whatever you're commissioned to do here on this earth, you need God in order to complete the task. You see, it is not of ourselves that we can do anything; rather, it is the grace and power of God working through us that ultimately enables us to be effective. Always remember that. Hurt. Sad. Depressed. Dejected. Imagine shopping for the perfect gift for someone special. You get it boxed and gift wrapped, then you head on over to their place to give it to them. That person you love sees the gift, excitedly tears the wrapping paper open... and then their smile turns upside down. "I don't want this," they yell, showing no appreciation for the gift you gave them. "I didn't ask for this! I wanted something else," they shout, as they throw the box to the floor and trample it underfoot on their way out of the room. "Bam!" They slam the door behind them. Honor God First

When life gets hectic, God is often the first one to go on the back burner. Sadly, all too frequently, He takes a backseat to our most pressing temporal needs and concerns. Many times, we're guilty of not giving Him first place in our lives. No matter what's going on--good or bad--we have to make it our business to honor God first. We can never get so busy until we feel like we don't have time to make time for Him. We can't get so preoccupied with trying circumstances that we don't make time to honor Him with our praise. Not only that, but we should never become so bogged down with financial concerns that we fail to honor Him with the firstfruits of all our increase. Essentially, the show chronicled the life cycle of home improvement projects taken on by eager "do-it-yourselfer's" wanting to upgrade their living quarters. These well-meaning, wide-eyed, and often inexperienced project participants, in many cases, weren't really up to the task. Some were, but many weren't. For those who weren't, after they ran into a few hindrances and saw that they were not accomplishing things as efficiently as they had hoped they would, these same "eager" folks threw their hands up and quit mid-project. In much the same way, in our walk with the Lord, some of us can be like week-end warriors. We take on the assignment God has given to us with eagerness and dedication... at first. I believe that one of the strongest weapons in the enemy's arsenal that he consistently uses against believers is diversion. Essentially, he will keep you distracted from seeing what God is doing in your life by drawing your attention toward everything that's out of sorts, out of balance, and out of alignment. When his scheme is successful, you then become so focused on what's wrong, that you can no longer recognize all the positives that far outweigh the negatives in your situation. You see, the enemy doesn't want you to meditate on all the awesome doors God is opening for you, so he'll show you all the doors that are currently closed in your face. I consider myself to be a pretty hard-worker. I do my best to see projects through to completion and I also like to challenge myself to do new things. But there are times when no amount of focus, diligence, or determination can resolve an issue that comes up. In these moments, my philosophy is, "Do what you can and don't worry about what you can't." Everything that comes against us doesn't necessarily lend itself to the "quick fix" model. Some situations, my friend, can only be resolved by the Omniscient One. ONLY He can handle it. That's why it's better just to take our hands off of some stuff and turn it over to Jesus. Your chief adversary will always be in search of ways to distract you, limit your productivity, impede your progress, and shake your faith. And although you cannot escape the spiritual battle that ensues as a result of your loyal commitment to your divine purpose, you don't have to be defeated just because the enemy is coming against you. Have you ever stood outside and just gazed into the twilight? Have you ever noticed the awe-inspiring beauty of the dim rays of light that illuminate the sky? It's not quite dark, and it's not quite light... the sun hasn't fully set, nor has it risen. Twilight falls somewhere between dusk and dawn... the in-between-time. I talked to you yesterday about a road in the wilderness... that time of ambiguity and uncertainty when you know God is up to something, but you're not sure what it is. I also like to call this the "twilight season" when you're enduring your own personal in-between time. Although the road isn't completely darkened, things aren't as clear as you want them to be. I wonder, have you ever been going through an intense personal struggle and made a decision NOT to obsess over it? If so, didn't you feel much better although nothing in your external circumstances had changed one bit? Didn't it get easier to deal with whatever was going on? The Timing Issue

Yesterday morning during service, the senior choir sang a song called "On Time God." The whole congregation got up, clapped, and sang along. Some folks even "got happy" as they repeated the words, "He may not come when you want Him, but He'll be there right on time..." Do you know that song? Well, I daresay, it can be much easier to sing it than it is to live it. You see, when you have to wait on the Lord, it can be downright grueling at times. Deadlines pass, our patience grows thin, worry creeps in, and we end up getting more and more weary while we wait. Okay, the title may be a little weird, but indulge me for a moment. A few days ago, I was talking to a friend of mine about some personal struggles and stress she was experiencing. She had internalized all of the pressure she was feeling, so much so, it made her ill. Her health had been declining for a series of weeks. She called me again today frazzled and we had a serious conversation. Essentially, the pressure she'd been feeling was due to her attempts to figure and work things out on her own.
