Have you ever been watching TV and couldn't get the remote control to work? Did you find yourself getting frustrated because you couldn't change the channel... or you couldn't turn the TV off or on? How long did you sit there beating up the remote and complaining?
Did it occur to you that you could just get up and change the channel or turn the TV off/on manually? Isn't it funny how dependent we become on modern conventions of technology, people, and things, when we possess the power to personally change our circumstances?
It's just a matter of getting up and changing it ourselves!
Here's another scenario. Do you find yourself "vegging out" when you should be working? Been procrastinating a little too much lately? I think we're all guilty of it sometimes. We avoid doing things, even when we know we should. How much time do we
waste dreading things?
How many hours are spent thinking about what we
"need" to do, instead of actually doing those things?
Certainly, there are some things that fall outside the realm of your control. There are specific situations only God can fix. Then, there are other instances when you can be proactive and change things for the better. Today, I want to focus on the latter.
Most everyone is familiar with the serenity prayer written by theologian Reinhold Niebuhr that says,"God grant me the
serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference."
Are you "changing the things you can" or are you stuck complaining about them?
Perhaps there are some areas in your life you should be working on. Maybe you've been procrastinating. C'mon think about it. Be honest. Have you been doing all you should be doing, or have you been slacking off? If you haven't been taking responsibility in certain areas, I'm shaking you out of your sleepy solace and stirring your nest.
Imagine me with a bullhorn in my hand, and I'm yelling in your ear right now, YOU NEED TO BEGIN WORKING TOWARD YOUR GOALS! Whether you want to lose a few pounds, finish school, focus more on your business ventures, or simply work on your character... you have the power to change these areas of your life for the better.
Do you believe that?
If so, don't spend another day sulking and sinking into depression over things you can change. You can choose today to make the necessary adjustments you need to make. As I pointed out earlier, you don't have the power to fix everything that's out of whack. There are some things reserved for the Lord. But there are some practical areas where you can make moves that will dramatically improve the quality of your life.
You'll feel so much better when you do. Your mind will be much freer.
You see, there's nothing like the pain of regret, especially when you know you could have stopped certain things from getting out of hand. I don't know how you feel about it, but I'd rather deal with the pain of hard work any day, over the pain of regret!
So get busy doing the things you need to do... whatever they may be. If you take the first step, God will give you the favor to finish!
Until next time... may you be empowered to prosper!
