Yesterday's post was so important that, I thought it was worth continuing. Shall we? Well, we began by exploring the idea that we have to see our worth in order to gain the respect we deserve, as well as, position ourselves to receive God's abundance. Now, I want to dig a little deeper.
The key thing to remember about having a sense of worth is this: Until you value yourself the way you should, your relationships will always be dysfunctional. Don't ever forget that. You'll either be too needy, or you'll allow needy people to latch onto you and drain you. In many cases, you'll become a people pleaser. You'll become overly accommodating to others. You'll try to do everything in your power to meet their needs at your own expense.
When you allow this to happen, you end up in compromising situations.
I'm going to attempt to explain something that will be very profound for you, if you can grasp it. Here's the premise: We attempt to heal in others what is broken in us. I'll restate it to make it even clearer. We tend to give to others what we need. Now let that marinate for a moment...
For example, if you were an underdog all of your life, you empathize with those who have a similar plight. Why? Because you somehow see yourself in them. So, what happens? You feel the need to "rescue" that individual. You want to help them. Your heart bleeds for that person. Something in you wants to reach out to them.
But you can't always follow your heart in these cases. Although your intentions may be noble, the outcome can quickly turn disastrous.
You see, you can't save everyone. I'll tell you why. Everyone doesn't want to be rescued. They don't necessarily need what you need, or want what you want. And although you may be able to clearly understand and analyze their pain, that doesn't mean that God has assigned you to make their lives over.
Sometimes, you have to step back and let others walk out their path in life. Stop frustrating yourself trying to be "all things to all people." You can't. Even though your heart might be in the right place, God wants you to focus on you first.
Let Him heal the areas in you that need to be mended.
Many times, we try to deliver others before we are delivered. But don't make that mistake. Instead, cast your cares upon Jesus and let Him make you whole. He's the only one who cares about us and loves us unconditionally.
Today, I want you to ask God to show you those areas inside of you that need to be healed. Ask Him to help you deal with your brokenness, so you will be fully equipped to mend those you have indeed been assigned to.
Until next time... may you be empowered to prosper!
