Funny Story...

Recently, I was stuck in a long line at the grocery store. And you don't need me to tell you, it certainly "ain't no rock-n-roll show." Everyone was ready to go... me included. But hey, what're you gonna do? Don't you find it fascinating that there's always one individual in these unpleasant situations that thinks tantrums and antics will improve the circumstance? Well, that person was standing directly in front of me. She seemed to believe that if she verbally assaulted the cashier, then somehow, the line was going to speed up. She even tried to engage me a few times, but I looked straight down at the floor. If you read this blog with any consistency, you know I advocate goal-setting, determination, motivation, and hard work. However, I never want you to forget that all of our efforts are null and void without the wisdom and the purpose of God at work in our lives. I never want you to get so caught up in self-motivation, that you get off into self-reliance. When you begin "leaning to your own understanding", that's when you mess up. In all of our attempts to get ahead in life, we must never forget our reason for existing-- to bring glory to God. He specifically fashioned us for a unique mission. Stop showing up to a spiritual battle using carnal weapons. "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds" (Ephesians 6:12 KJV). Whenever things seem to be going haywire in your life, don't start focusing on the circumstances. Rather, zone in on the spiritual battle that's being waged. "C'mon... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ... that's it, keep breathing." That's what I heard the doctor say when I was delivering each of my children. "C'mon... breathe through it... you can do it. " My husband would chime in too... like he knew ;-) Well, even though I was in intense pain and I felt like I would probably die, each time, (four times to be exact), I would breathe and push through the pain. When you're in transition, you're in an "in-between-stage." Don't Compete. Just Be.

Sometimes when you're thrown into new situations, you often feel the need to somehow "rise to the occasion." You don't want anyone to think you don't know what you're doing, or you needlessly worry about whether people will approve of you. Can you think of a scenario like that? You know... a time when you felt slightly inferior, especially when the person or persons on the other end weren't exactly in your corner rooting for you. Sometimes when you're thrown into new situations, you often feel the need to somehow "rise to the occasion." You don't want anyone to think you don't know what you're doing, or you needlessly worry about whether people will approve of you. Can you think of a scenario like that? You know... a time when you felt slightly inferior, especially when the person or persons on the other end weren't exactly in your corner rooting for you. You Must Lose to Gain

Sometimes, God will strip away people and things from us so that we can gain ground. However, the stripping away is never easy. As a matter of fact, even when we know something might not be good for us, it often feels easier to hang on, rather than deal with the pain of loss. No doubt, it hurts to lose things we care about. It's uncomfortable to be nudged outside of what's familiar to us... even when our current position hinders our destiny. But please understand, in the Kingdom of God, you have to lose in order to gain. You have to give up in order to get. You have to submit in order to rule. What do I mean by that last statement? Have you ever just felt downright "sick and tired" of something? I mean, those times when you feel like, "I have had it up to here with this?" Well, I want to propose the idea that being sick and tired is a great thing... but only on one condition. You've gotta be sick and tired enough to do something about it. You see, your outward attitude is a result of your inward feelings. But feelings are not enough. You have to be willing to change your behavior, in order to change your situation. You have to be sick and tired enough to shake yourself loose from whatever it is that has you tied up. Remember the Prodigal Son?
