Have you ever been confronted with a situation that seemed absolutely impossible? I’m not talking about something that you could work out on your own with a little ingenuity. On the contrary, I want to know if there’s ever been a storm in your life that would have taken you under, unless God stepped in and worked a miracle.
Do you have one of those “If it had not been for the Lord ” testimonies? I know I’ve endured plenty of adverse circumstances and hard trials. But every time, without fail, God has shown Himself strong on my behalf.
Now, that doesn’t mean my faith has never wavered in the midst of the storm. Sure, I would love to say that I’ve always had unshakable confidence that everything would be all right in the end. Notwithstanding, I must admit, I’ve fallen short on many occasions.
We often behave like the disciples did in Matthew 8:23-27. They all got into a boat with Jesus and He told them "Let's go over to the other side." But when a furious storm came without warning, all of the circumstances around them said they were going to drown.
Jesus was fast asleep, so as you can imagine, the disciples panicked, frantically ran to wake him, and said, "don't you care if we drown?" He said to them, "You of little faith. Why are you so afraid?" Then he rebuked the winds and the waves, and everything ceased.
We will have a fit in a minute, won't we? After seeing God's hand in our lives time after time, why do we get so fearful? Why don't we trust Him? I guess it's just part of our humanness, but thank God, there is hope for us.
When your faith is failing, look to Jesus, the “author and finisher of your faith.” (See Hebrews 12:2) He is the rock of your salvation, your sword and your shield. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1 NKJV).
He’s always present with you. So, when life’s adversities come to snuff out your faith, look to Jesus. He’s the lifter up of your head. Sometimes, however, the storms of life just keep on raging. The winds of change and uncertainty keep blowing. If we’re not careful, we’ll lose our footing in the middle of the test.
But if we would keep our eyes focused on the rock, rather than the other distractions the enemy brings to get us off course, we would be just fine.
Remember, God will give you strength that you never even knew you had if you stay in His presence. He will open doors that you never dreamed could open for you. He will take you places you never thought you would go.
As a matter of fact, you’re on your way right now; and though you may not see it, you’re right on the brink of your breakthrough. It’s already done. It just hasn’t manifested yet.
When your faith is failing you, grab hold to what God said to the children of Israel, when He was preparing them for the abundant blessings He was getting ready to bestow upon them. “When the Lord your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you—a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant—then when you eat and are satisfied . . . ” (Deuteronomy 6:10, 11 NKJV).
Notice, none of what God said had happened yet. But that didn’t matter. He prepared Israel
Woman of God, lift up your head and know that you serve a risen Savior and He’s more than able to give you everything you need. Trust Him as your sole source. He is your provider. He alone is your way-maker. He is God all by Himself. Beside Him there is no other. So, instead of walking around worrying about how things will turn out, try this instead: “I lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1, 2).
