Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and R&B singer Ciara are officially a couple.
According to the NFL superstar, both are born-again Christians who are abstaining from sex until marriage.
"I said to her – and she completely agreed – 'Can we love each other without that?'” explained the 26-year-old in a recorded interview with The Rock Church pastor, Miles McPherson.
"If you can love somebody without that, then you can really love somebody,” he added.
According to Wilson, who has been outspoken about his faith in Jesus Christ for quite some time, he and Ciara met “five, six months ago,” and have been inseparable since.
“Funny thing is, I told somebody that that’s the girl I wanted to be with before I ever met her,” he said. “She’s a sweetheart. She’s everything that you could ever want honestly.”
When Pastor McPherson asked him whether or not Ciara was a Believer, Wilson said, “There’s a difference between a Believer and a follower,” and then said of Ciara, “She’s a follower.”
Despite her seductive music and tantalizing on-stage persona, the love-struck divorcee says his new ladylove is similar to him in her devotion to faith, as well as her painful past.
“She’s a special girl. She’s been through some heartaches, too,” said Wilson. “I’ve been through some heartaches. I was married before. I married the person I was with in high school since I was like 15 years old. That didn’t work out, unfortunately.”
Wilson married his ex-wife Ashton Meem in 2012 and divorced in 2014, and now, has begun a happier chapter in his life.
According to Wilson, Ciara is the “most beautiful woman in the world, most kind person, most engaging person.”
In fact, he believes their connection is divinely inspired. “God spoke to me and said, ‘I need you to lead her.’ And I was like, ‘Really?’” he said. “I knew that God had brought me into her life to bless her and for her to bless me, and to bless so many people with the impact that she has, that I have.”
Despite Wilson’s outspoken commitment to abstinence due to his faith, Wilson said, “We’re not gonna be perfect by any means, you know. Life’s not perfect.”
Though determined to honor God, he knows it won’t be easy. Wilson said, “I ain’t gone lie to y’all now. I need y’all to pray for us.”
