I woke up today to the sound of gentle rain beating against the foggy window pane with beads of condensation sitting on it. The overcast sky made me want to lie in bed a few moments longer. After all, rainy weather is the best kind for sleeping. At least I think so.
But I managed to peel myself out of bed anyway, immediately feeling the cold chill in the perfectly silent atmosphere. Quickly, I grabbed my favorite blue knit sweater, slipped it on, zipped it up, and hugged myself tightly.
Summer time is really gone, I thought. And now, the manifestations are really beginning to show up in the weather forecast. I can’t complain, though. Buffalo weather can be brutally cold; and it’s just now starting to cool down significantly. I suppose the residents of “The City of Good Neighbors” have had a good stretch of warmth. We can’t complain now that it’s finally time for a wardrobe change in response to the new season.
Such is life.
We have to learn to adjust our mentality and behavior in order to handle life’s changes gracefully, because they will inevitably happen. Whether that new reality we are facing is good or bad, there are mental, spiritual, and even physical adjustments that must be made.
For example, it would make no sense for me to continue wearing shorts, sandals, and sleeveless t-shirts in the cooler Fall temperatures, right? If I did do something that ridiculous, my foolish stance would have no bearing on the weather or the season.
The temperatures wouldn’t suddenly spike to accommodate my resistance to change, would they? Of course not. I only have two options. Change with the times, or be negatively impacted by the new reality.
Today, I encourage you. No matter what transition you may be facing, know that God will give you the wisdom to make the necessary adjustments in this season. BUT you have to be willing to adapt.
Perhaps you’re going through something in your physical body that won’t allow you to run as much as you used to. Don’t be stubborn. Slow down.
Maybe you’re dealing with a season of less abundance and you don’t have as much money to spare. Don’t keep spending the same way you used to. Adhere to a stricter budget.
You could even be dealing with a difficult time of transition in a relationship. Don’t try to fill up the void with something or someone else. Give yourself time to process the situation and heal properly.
On the other hand, you might be going through a season of increased responsibility where new doors are being opened for you. In that case, don’t run away. Confidently tackle those things head on, knowing that God will give you all the strength, and wisdom you need to sustain you through this shift.
One thing that never changes is God’s faithfulness to be with you through it all.
Today’s Prayer: God, I thank you for giving me the strength, wisdom, and courage to address every season of change in my life. Although transition is never comfortable, I will not fight what I cannot control. Rather, I will lean on you to give me the tools I need to change right along with the change. Thank you for your help right now. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time… may today’s cup of inspiration empower, motivate, and inspire you!
