What has you worried, over-thinking, and bothered? Whatever it is, the stress of stressing over it is taking its toll. Anxious thoughts disrupt your peace, just like the sound of a train and its obnoxious horn blowing, piercing through the quiet on our street today. Unlike worrying, which is disruptive but pointless, I understand the purpose of train horns.
They are installed on locomotives to warn drivers and pedestrians of the approaching train, giving them time to move out of the way.
Sometimes, folks play loud music, have their windows rolled up, and don’t easily hear alarms and sounds from the outside. But the blare of a train horn is enough to get anybody’s attention.
When I was younger, I feared locomotives. After I first observed a news report about someone being fatally hit by one, I dreaded hearing trains and seeing train tracks. Whenever I came to a train crossing, I was terrified that, out of the blue, a locomotive would come speeding toward me and run me over.
As you well know, young children process and react to bad news differently than well-adjusted adults. They sometimes get rattled, worried and traumatized by negative life events, while more experienced grownups are able to take things in stride. On the other hand, some youth are forced to grow up too fast. They are thrown into circumstances against their will, and made to deal with things no child should have to.
Their innocence is stolen by abusers; a parent dies suddenly and tragically; they grow up in a war-torn village where violence, grief and evil is all around them; they live in poverty and go without food, shelter, clothes, or clean water for extended periods of time.
Some never had a chance to know normalcy. Dysfunction has always been their norm.
Without the delivering power of Jesus Christ setting them free from bondage, they grow up lost, confused, resentful, and in some cases, end up repeating unhealthy cycles.
Satan's assignment is canceled. Every negative cycle is broken.
You have been set free to live out your divine destiny!
In Acts 16:16-18, we meet a female slave with a “spirit of divination,” caught in a cycle of dysfunction for sure. The Bible doesn't tell us how she ended up in that predicament. All we know is that she was being used for profit as a medium. She made a fortune telling fortunes. Her owners pocketed major bucks.
At the time she enters the scene in Acts, Paul, Timothy, Silas and Luke were doing evangelism work, and she kept following them around. While trailing these Holy Spirit-filled men of God, she shouted repeatedly, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.”
While what she was saying was indeed true, her motives were not pure. This diviner had been sent from Satan to inject herself into a genuine move of God under false pretenses. The devil will use anybody. Be careful. Don't be flattered and fooled by what people say. Only God can reveal the hidden motives of a person's heart.
The Lord knows that the devil takes on many forms and manifests himself in different ways. 2 Corinthians 11:13-14 warns against "false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ," and also denotes that, "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light."
Fancy that. The prince of darkness pretends to be an angel of light.
And many are fooled.
Paul’s discernment, however, was too sharp for that. After days went by with this woman following them and shouting, he got fed up with her phony and loud displays of piety. God did not need Satan’s fake PR campaign taking the focus off of the ministry.
Again, be watchful and aware. The enemy loves to attach himself to a true move of the Holy Spirit only to use the platform to draw people away from Christ. He will do is best to distract, deceive and divide. But when you are truly submitted to the Holy Spirit, the Lord will show you the truth, just as He did the Apostle Paul.
The word of God says, Paul spoke to the evil spirit inside this woman and said, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” Just like that, Satan was expelled.
This upset the woman’s owners who were going to lose money because she was no longer under the control of Satan. Paul and Silas were thrown in prison for casting the devil out, but the Holy Spirit broke them right out of jail (See Act 16:19-40)!
I love how in the same chapter we see God setting people free from the spiritual prison of oppression, as well as a literal prison. This tells us that no matter where you find yourself, God is able to set you free. If you're in a pit, He'll lift you up. If you're chained, He'll loose you. If you're depressed, He'll give you joy. If you're confused, He'll give you clarity. If you're sick, He'll heal your body. If you're bound by lack, He'll give you increase.
There is no situation too desperate for God to work out.
He’s able to set you free.
If I were in a church setting, I'd tell you to tap your neighbor right there and tell them, "He's able!" Since we're not in church, go ahead and tell yourself, "He's able."
Oh, yes He is.
It is not His will for you to be locked up, bound up, and held back. God wants you walking in liberty and experiencing the bountiful goodness and the abundant life Christ died to give you. When you realize that your freedom is in Him, you don’t have to worry about the attack of the enemy.
Satan is already defeated. Jesus snatched the keys of death, hell and the grave when He rose on the third day with all power in His hands (Revelation 1:18). You have authority and victory through His name. Don't you know who you are? When you are submitted to the will of God and have totally given control over to the Lord, the enemy can’t do anything the Lord doesn’t allow.
And let me save you the suspense: God is never going to allow him to win. The devil might come against you, but his attempts will fail. The attack won’t work. The victory is yours.
If you’re in the midst of a wilderness, you may as well get excited about the Promised Land. If you are bound by negative circumstances, get ready for your jail break. If God did it for Paul and Silas, He's able -- more than able, in fact-- to do it for you. He’s breaking every chain off of your life. He’s freeing you from whatever is hindering you from walking in the fullness of your destiny.
I've seen Him do it. He did it for me. He snatched me up out of my bed of affliction, healed my body, and told me to run on. His spirit that lives within me, is in you, and He stands ready to work for you. I tell you all the time, God has already secured victory on your behalf. Nothing Satan tries will work.
To remind you of this truth, I’m stirring Isaiah 54:17 into your cup of inspiration, which says, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper...”
As you drink down the contents of your cup, you have no need to fear. Despite what you may be going through right now, remember, God is more than able to mend whatever is broken, right whatever is wrong, and change your life for the better.
Know that your walk with Jesus fortifies you against the wiles, trickery and treachery of the devil. You have the invincible, omnipotent One, working for you. Who then, can be against you?
Now let’s pray.
God, thank You for liberty, victory and deliverance that is already mine. I speak breakthrough over my life. I decree and declare that every attack shall fail. Anything that has come to keep me bound is broken off of my life. I believe and receive this in the name of Jesus—the name that is above all others—amen.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, encourage, and empower you!
