If you’ve been keeping up with my YouTube vlog, you know I had been battling a cold. Last week, I discovered a remedy suggested by a friend that typically works well to quiet a cough and promote more rapid healing. It didn’t work for me, though.
I continued hacking and struggling with extreme hoarseness. To make matters worse, I had an allergic reaction to the supposed remedy. So I ended up with hives on top of all the other things wrong.
Thank God I’m feeling much better.
I remember when I first felt a hint of soreness and scratchiness in my voice. It happened after a virus that started with one of my nephews found its way into the Hobbs household. Our children began getting sick. My husband Kenya was coughing. And finally, the viral bacteria overwhelmed my body and I succumbed to the flu-like virus.
Naturally, our bodies’ immune systems can ward off sickness. But when bacterium multiplies, it becomes too overwhelming to fight off anymore. Daily Cup family, I did my best to keep the sickness from spreading, but colds, as you know, are easily passed along—especially when living in close quarters with another person who’s sick.
In life, there is no way to avoid run-ins with those who are ill and contagious, unless you lock yourself away. All you can do is try to sanitize your hands, minimize contact, build up your immune system and hope for the best.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could quarantine infectious illnesses and contain them indefinitely? As nice as it would be, it isn’t possible.
The same is true of the enemy’s attacks. We wish we could avoid them, but we can’t. It is always his goal to overwhelm us and bring us down. Like viruses, he aims darts of negativity, distraction, discouragement, and numerous things to cause us pain. Satan hopes his arrows will spear us through, infiltrate our hearts and minds, and infect us.
He’ll use anything he can think of to get in, rubbing his hands together in anticipation of an outcome that validates this popular saying: “One bad apple spoils the bunch.”
This expression is true. You see, ripe fruit emits a gaseous hormone and ripening agent called ethylene. If an overly ripe apple, producing lots of ethylene, is stored with other fruit, over time, there will be enough gas to cause all the fruit to over-ripen, and eventually turn rotten.
Like bacterium that becomes multiple bacteria, ethylene can overpower what would be good, edible fruit.
That’s why the Lord is sending this word to you today. He knows He has great things in store for you and Satan is attacking you on multiple fronts, hoping to harm, overtake and defeat you. Your chief adversary is doing all he can to plague your heart with doubt and fear so you won’t believe you can do, have and be all God says you can!
But here’s some good news for you: God’s power is greater.
He’s greater than any attack, setback, devastation, struggle or challenge. There’s a scripture I love found in Zechariah 4:6, which says, “So he said to me, ‘This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty.”
The supernatural power of God is making the impossible possible in your life.
In this passage, an angel spoke these words in a vision which came to Zechariah the Prophet, concerning Zerubbabel. Zerubbabel was the governor of Judah, and was chosen by God to lead His people in rebuilding the temple.
Friend, let me just tell you, this was no easy task! Zerubbabel lacked the many resources that were present in the building of the first temple. Not only that, but his rebuilding attempts were halted by the opposition of Israel’s adversaries (Ezra 4:1-24).
So he was facing the challenge of shrinking resources and mounting opposition. He seemingly had more problems than he had solutions.
Ever been there?
Don’t let that discourage you.
In Zerubbabel’s case, though the circumstances weren’t ideal, the God Israel served was above all those things. This is true in your case and mine. See, it would not be by the might and power of the people that the temple would be rebuilt, but by the might and power of God’s Spirit.
The Lord was about to turn things around. Here’s what happened.
A while after the Jews had begun to work on the temple again, following Haggai and Zechariah’s prophecies (Ezra 5:1-2), a decree by a previous king, King Cyrus, was found that gave the Jews full permission to rebuild their temple (Ezra 6:1-5). Here's what's powerful about that. Before Zerubbabel was aware of it, a decree in his favor had already gone out. The benefits of that decree, however, didn't manifest until later.
For somebody reading this, you're not even aware that God has already spoken a decree. Some things are already set in motion. It's not apparent in your situation yet, but evidence of the Lord's favor is getting ready to show up. Get ready! Though the enemy has tried his best to stop, block, and shut you down, it didn't work.
You know why?
Because the Lord has granted you access. Before you even knew about it, He had sent out a decree on your behalf commanding blessings, provision and favor. And whatever God decrees, and declares, must come to pass.
Not only did this decree cause the current king, King Darius, to tell Israel’s adversaries to back off, but he also ordered them to fund the building of the temple, and provide God’s people with all they needed to carry out that task (Ezra 6:6-12).
God made Israel’s enemies quit antagonizing them and finance the project. There is nothing He won’t do. It’s obvious that the supernatural was at work here. It wasn’t the might, endurance, nor power of the people that finally brought God’s will to pass. They had tried building the temple many a time before, only to be shut down. But when God stepped on the scene, everything shifted.
As you’re reading this, the Lord wants you to know, some stuff is about to shift for you. Just as He did with Israel, by shedding light on an obscure, overlooked decree, that not only supported the work of His people, but also caused things to turn in their favor, He’s causing things to work for you.
Don’t worry about anything. Even if you feel like all the odds are overwhelmingly against you right now, expect a flood of favor. Great things are headed in your direction.
At this very moment, whatever is trying to hinder you, this word from the Lord that I’m stirring into your cup of inspiration is just for you. It’s found in Romans 8:31 NIV, which says, “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
As you drink down the contents of your cup, be encouraged. Everything around you may say what you’re believing for is impossible, but just keep walking in faith. And be assured that the Lord will bring His purpose to pass—not by your strength, or your might, or your zeal, but by His power alone.
Get ready for your shift. God has decreed and declared a blessing over you.
Now let’s pray.
God, I may not know how, when or where my breakthrough is going to come from, but I know it is. I don’t have the ability or know-how to change my situation, but You do. You have all power in Your hands and I thank You for divine release of blessings and favor. I call it done by faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, encourage, and empower you!
