I made an early morning run to my local grocer today to grab
some eggs, milk and a few other items. When I came back outside, I noticed a
vehicle that looked exactly like mine. It was the same color, make and model.
Initially, I started walking toward the automobile without even thinking about it. Have you ever done that?
But then it hit me. Though this vehicle appeared identical, I had parked a farther distance away from the store’s entrance. So it couldn’t be mine unless it had somehow cranked and moved itself while I was shopping.
I’m glad I had that realization. Otherwise, I might have been like one of my acquaintances that recently accidentally entered another person’s unlocked car. Neither of these vehicles had an alarm system, so she didn’t notice her mistake until trying her key in the stranger’s ignition.
In my case, I probably would have been standing alongside another owner’s automobile, frantically pressing down on my keyless entry pad, trying to figure out why my alarm system wasn’t working.
After realizing my almost-mistake, I chuckled, shook my head and strolled toward my parking space.
Before I settled into the driver’s seat to pull off, I eyed the body of the other automobile again to see if there were any distinct “this-is-not-your-vehicle” features that may have tipped me off had I been paying closer attention.
There were not.
Since I’m not the bumper sticker type and apparently, neither was that owner, there were no other unique markings on the automobile. The only outwardly detectable difference was the license plate number.
In the future, perhaps that should be the first thing I zone in on to avoid any confusion, huh? There may be two vehicle body types alike, but there are no two license plate numbers that are just the same.
When it comes to you, as an individual, you may share a similar body type with someone you know. Family and friends might say you’re the “spitting image” of a certain relative. Ever heard that one before? Your personality and tastes may be very much like another person’s as well. The two of you might be what folks like to call “two peas in a pod.”
And yet, there is no one just like you on the entire planet.
God placed something so unique, precious and valuable in you that it can never be replicated or duplicated. Of all the billions of people on planet earth, your design, crafted by God Himself, will never be reproduced.
That’s why you cannot look around at others to help you decide exactly what kind of person God has called you to be. You are you and they are them. Though you may be inspired by some of the other wonderful people you encounter, you still have your own lane.
God wants you to own it and walk in it.
Live out the truest and fullest expression of the person God designed and predestined you to become. Know that He molded and fashioned you before you ever were born into this world. To remind you of this truth, I’m stirring Psalm 139:16 NIV into your cup of inspiration. It says, “Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
When you drink down the contents of your cup, you'll see that God fashioned and purposed you to do and be something special, and extraordinary. He created you with love and meticulous attention to detail.
He didn’t form you to conform to anyone’s image other than His. So draw close to God so He can draw out, highlight and put on display every wonderful treasure He placed in you for His glory and delight.
God made you special.
Now let’s pray.
God, thank You for reminding me of who I am and challenging me to walk in the fullness of who I am called to be. Please help me to abide in Your presence and draw my sense of worth, value, and identity from You alone. In moments when I tend to forget, please remind me that I am Your prized possession, created for good works, by an immutable God who has solidified my purpose. In Jesus' name, Amen.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, encourage, and empower you!
