On October 25, 2011, in a blog titled “I am Not My Family History” I told you about how my mother’s breast cancer diagnosis last year sent shockwaves throughout our family. Although God brought her through the ordeal, Mom’s Oncologist warned us that at least one of the seven girl siblings would contract the disease.
Guaranteed…
Since late last year, the enemy has been trying to make me to believe that I was that one.
After discovering a hard, painless lump in my left breast, my doctor set me up for a mammogram.
To my dismay, the radiologists’ films showed what appeared to be early stage Ductal Carcinoma—one of the most common forms of breast cancer.
As you might imagine, when I heard that news, my heart dropped.
Yet, I knew that even if it was cancer, my God is a healer and sustainer. I’ve seen Him bring my mother and sister-in-law through their individual battles. I was confident that, though I didn’t want to face the Big C, God would be with me every step of the way.
Doctors decided to send me to a breast specialist.
A couple days before my appointment, disturbing symptoms began manifesting.
It didn’t look good Daily Cup family.
When I arrived to see the leading breast cancer doctor in Western New York, I felt somewhat jittery. He did his examination and studied my films which showed two masses in my breast.
One was definitely benign.
The other was questionable.
I prayed under my breath while mindlessly flipping through a magazine.
When the doctor came back into the room where I sat perched on the examination table, he looked me in the eyes intensely and said, “You can relax, it’s not cancer.”
Reflexively, I shouted out, “Oh, thank You Jesus!”
I rejoiced over the good news that the bad news was wrong.
Even though it looked like it might be cancer, God said not so!
So today, I want to encourage those of you who might be going through something that doesn’t look very good.
Your circumstances might be telling you that something bad is happening, or is about to happen. Oh, but I believe God allowed me to go through this "health scare" so I could testify to you today, and let you know the bad news is wrong.
Don't focus on what appears to be going on. Focus on what God's word says.
To remind you not to trust in what you see, I’m stirring 2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV into your cup of inspiration which says, “(For we walk by faith, not by sight:).”
When you drink down the contents of your cup today, you’ll be reminded that your eyes can play tricks on you sometimes. What you see in the natural, is not necessarily so in the spiritual. Even when you receive unfavorable news, you don’t have to take it at face value.
Instead, trust God, because He has the finally say.
If you’re facing some bad news right now, the good news is that God is still on the throne and He is in control.
Again, He has the last say and He says you are victorious through the blood of Jesus Christ!
Now let’s pray.
God, some of the situations facing me today are discouraging. Things don’t look good, but right now, I choose to believe Your word. No matter what it seems like, I refuse to accept bad news and mourn. Instead, by faith, I choose to believe that good things are on the horizon for me and because of that, I will rejoice. Thank You for my victory even though defeat is all around me. I praise You for my healing, even though symptoms say I’m sick. I give You glory for my breakthrough, even though roadblocks are in my way. Thank You for my testimony I’ll have after I come through this test. I know You are sovereign. You are able. And You are all powerful. My life is in Your hands, oh God, and I trust YOU alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, encourage, and empower you!
