"He won't give me duh black ding (thing) Mommy!" said my youngest son, Kaleb as he burst into my room yelling.
"What black thing Kaleb?'
"Duh black ding dat was, dat was, um, dat was on duh floor." Rather than probing the 3 year old who would end up taking an inordinate amount of time explaining what was going on, I decided to do what was easiest.
You guessed it.
I immediately called out, "Kedar... Come here," summoning my oldest son to clear up this whole mess, because I had no earthly idea what Kaleb was talking about. Well, before Kedar could step foot in the room, his first words were, "I had it first Mommy!"
"Had what?" I asked, feeling confused. I didn't even know what the "black ding" was.
"This," Kedar said, holding up a big black perfectly round bead. I immediately recognized it. It was from one of my favorite simple, easy-to-wear necklaces. They had broken it!
Technically, the bead was mine! But of course, as an adult, it's easier for me to let things like that go and chalk it up to a loss. Kedar and Kaleb, on the other hand, saw things from the complete opposite perspective.
From that small incident yesterday, that was pretty easily rectified by the way, I began thinking about a quality children possess, that adults could stand to emulate spiritually.
What do I mean? Well, children will fight for what they believe is theirs, won't they? No matter who tries to lay claim to it, if they believe it belongs to them (No matter how seemingly insignificant it is to anyone else), they won't let it go.
When it comes to their toys, their territory, or in Kaleb and Kedar's case, a bead, they won't part ways with their stuff without putting up a serious protest.
Sometimes, in our walk with the Lord, I think we need to be more like children and fight for what we know is ours. There are times when we're too passive and we allow the enemy to have His way with us, but we've got to get some more backbone and refuse to give up on what God has clearly promised us. Sadly, we allow the enemy to rob us of our dreams, as well as our peace, joy, faith, optimism and zeal for life. When he comes in and tries to snatch away what is rightfully ours, we just give it away and allow him to do it.
But isn't your destiny and your future worth fighting for? Where is your fight?
I know that, sometimes, life can beat us down pretty badly. There are seasons when we deal with difficult struggles that sap our energy, suck out our vitality and leave us feeling just downright worn out. But, if we could just hear the voice of God reminding us that we don't have to allow the enemy to run roughshod over us, we would be less inclined to be a doormat for him to walk on.
Today, I pray that something would arise in you. I want you to see that God's glory and His treasure is within you. Don't allow the enemy to steal it. It belongs to you. Don't you dare give up on anything God has said about you. After all, He's not giving up on you. "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6 KJV).
So, I ask you again. Where is your fight? I'll tell you where it is; it's on the inside of you in the person of the Holy Spirit! "When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him" (Isaiah 59:19b). When you feel weak, get in the presence of the Lord. He'll renew your strength; restore your joy and empower you to do everything He's chosen you to do before the foundation of the world.
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may you be empowered to prosper!
