Yesterday morning, I heard the pitter-patter of feet coming toward my bedroom.
"I'm hungry," Kedar said in a small, sleepy voice. For some reason, he had woken up a lot earlier than his usual time. Here I was, right in the middle of my AM Bible study, when he stumbled into my room rubbing his eyes and requesting waffles.
So, I closed up my Bible and headed to the kitchen to prepare an early breakfast for Kedar. Once I was finished, I told him to come and eat. Now, Kedar loves to eat, so I expected him to screech with delight and take off running down the stairs to the kitchen to chow down on his favorite syrup-covered breakfast food.
But Kedar didn't do that.
Instead, he slumped his shoulders with a kind of pitiful look on his face.
"My legs are tired," he said whimpering. "And I'm cold," he continued, clearly not wanting to make the trek to the kitchen for his breakfast. Although his warm morning meal had been prepared, because Kedar's body hadn't fully adjusted to his sudden early rising yesterday, he was feeling drowsy, drained and less than motivated to go and get what was waiting for him.
Think about it. Have you ever been hungry or desirous of something that you felt too weary to pursue? You know... a time when you wanted it so badly, but you didn't feel like you had it in you to take that course of action? That's a really, really tough place to be, but I believe we've all been there at least once before.
Lord knows I have!
There are seasons in our lives when we feel weary, worn and wiped out. Sometimes it's the result of intense trials that come to test our faith. At other times, it's the accumulation of disappointments that just wear us down over time. Then there are moments when the eventualities of life get the best of us and we lose our inner fortitude, commitment and resolve.
Essentially, we lose our fight.
As a result, we begin focusing on how tired, burdened and/or over-extended we feel, rather than seeing that what we need from the Lord has already been prepared. It just takes a little effort to get there, that's all.
But when your strength is failing, putting forth any effort can seem almost impossible.
Perhaps, you're going through a struggle and you're finding it difficult to continue pressing ahead. If that's you, I want to encourage you not to quit. What you're "hungry" for or desirous of, has been prepared for you. But, you have to be willing to pursue it.
You could be going through a trying time in a relationship that has you feeling emotionally drained; you might be struggling financially with limited resources to make ends meet; you could be experiencing a dry season where your dreams and visions don't seem to be getting off the ground fast enough. Consequently, your strength and motivation is rapidly diminishing, and quickly eroding away.
That's why I don't believe you're reading this blog post by accident today; The Lord wants to encourage you to keep pressing ahead. God's provision will be manifested, but you can't grow so weary that you quit before seeing the conclusion of the matter.
Even though he wasn't too thrilled about it, Kedar went down to eat his waffles anyway. Was his body still tired? Yes, but his hunger was even greater!
So... how great is your hunger?
Is it strong enough to push you to believe God despite what it looks like? Is it intense enough to motivate you to press your way through the storm when everything in you is saying Give up?
Right now, I pray that God increase your hunger pains, so that you won't ever give up on your destiny. May your appetite for the will and purpose of the Father, be strong enough to sustain you through every one of life's difficult tests.
"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not" (Galatians 6:9 KJV).
As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may you be empowered to prosper!
