Yesterday, I was teaching my 8 year old daughter, Kaiah, some math concepts during her arithmetic lesson. As we went over the lesson, she was enthusiastic and attentive. While I was explaining and working out a few problems with her, she caught on seemingly with relative ease.
I was quite pleased with the signs she was exhibiting.
But then, when the time came for her to work independently of me, she seemed to freeze up a little... well, a lot. So, I repeated the lesson, worked out some problems with her again and still, she lost her nerve when the time came to do it alone.
Interestingly, Kaiah's a fast learner. Nevertheless, it can be a bit of a challenge taking her from concept to implementation. She'll "get it" in theory, but when it comes time for the practical application of the lesson, she has to gain the confidence to apply the knowledge she's attained to work out a problem.
I know that about her, so I always try to handle her gingerly and be patient as she goes through her process.
But once she gets over the "confidence hurdle," she's pretty much unstoppable. You know, I always love to see the joy in her face when she finally does get that breakthrough and realizes she's equipped and capable of successfully completing her assignment.
But again, it's a process... just as it is for us in our walk with the Lord.
As I mentioned in yesterday's post, sometimes, we're 100% capable of doing certain things; but all too often, we lack the confidence to take action for fear of failing. We don't lack the ability; we simply lack the belief in our ability. Once we get a revelation that we are fully equipped to complete our assignment, however, that fear will begin to dissipate.
Today, you might be facing a confidence hurdle of your own in some area of your life. Perhaps, God is challenging you to launch out into new territory. Maybe He's breaking you out of your shell and thrusting you into unfamiliar places. He might be stretching you beyond your comfort zone. If this is the case, don't allow your lack of faith in the gifts and abilities He's given you to hinder you from seizing your destiny.
You see, God already knew what you had to work with even before He introduced your latest challenge to you. So, take on this new assignment with boldness and confidence in the Lord our God, and with full assurance that He will indeed see you through...
And He will.
As always, thanks for reading, and until next time... may you be empowered to prosper!
