My husband, Kenya, has to be one of the world's best omelette makers. He makes all kinds, but my favorite is his veggie omelette with cheese. So good. Well, yesterday, while he was cutting up the veggies to prepare the omelette, the anticipation made my hunger grow greater. I went from sorta hungry to starving in .2 seconds.
I tried to wait, but I felt like I just had to have something to tie me over. Besides, Kenya is one of those "chefs" that likes to take his time when he's whipping something up; he's very meticulous.
I'm sure you know how it is when you feel famished and those hunger pangs kick in, right? So then, you already know I had to get my hands on something... my own version of an appetizer while waiting for the main course. I opened the cabinet door, with my eyes darting back and forth, up and down, scanning over the bags, cans, and boxes.
Hmmm...what to eat?
And then, my epiphany came when I noticed Chester Cheetah smiling at me on that bright orange bag with those cool shades. I know Chester is a friend of my kids, but he and I don't usually communicate. "Have a cheese puff," I heard him say... and who can argue with this famous cool cat? Not me. So, I opened the bag and took out 3, trying to convince myself to only have a small taste.
Perfection.
So, I took out 4 cheese puffs the next time and this cycle happened repeatedly...3...then 4 more...3...then 4 more. I didn't stop until my delectable, mouth-watering omelette was finally finished. Happily, I thanked Kenya, got my fork and my cup of tea, and went to town. Before I could finish half of the omelette I had eagerly waited for, my stomach felt full. I had gorged myself on cheese puffs, leaving hardly any room for the very thing I really wanted in the first place.
Tragedy.
This makes me think about how we often behave in our walk with the Lord.
Rather than waiting on Him to meet our needs, we can sometimes allow the combination of our hunger and impatience to push us to make hasty decisions. We end up settling for a substitute, or something that satisfies our hunger temporarily. But it won't last. In fact, whenever we begin pursuing our own interests rooted in our selfish desires, when the season arrives when we should be walking out God's will, plan and purpose for us, our lives are already too full; our time is used up; our minds are preoccupied and our energy is depleted.
Again... tragedy.
That's why it's important to stay before the Lord. Chase after His will and desires for you. Don't become consumed with the things of this world and develop an insatiable appetite to fulfill carnal cravings. Otherwise, you'll miss out on your divine destiny, because of your hunger for things outside of the will of God.
At the end of the day, if you develop a hunger after anything, it should be this: "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled" (Matthew 5:6 KJV).
What are you hungry for today?
As always, thank you for reading, and until next time... may you be empowered to prosper!
