When we go through tough times that leave us feeling weak and weary, we often say, "I need a word!" Essentially, what we're expressing is a need to hear from God. Yet, many times, we fail to open up the word of God and read what He has to say to us to refuel us when we've maxed out. But today, I want to tell you, never underestimate the potency and power of the word of God to transform your situation and give you a renewed outlook.
You see, at some point, we all will go through a storm and we'll need to be reinvigorated. That's what God's word is for. It recharges us when our strength and faith is failing.
It makes me think about my cell phone. It's frusrating when my phone dies, so I have two batteries for my phone and I carry a fully charged one at all times, so that when the one in use runs low, I don't have to worry about connecting the phone to a charger. I can simply replace the dead battery with the charged battery, without having my communication interrupted. Wherever I am, when my battery life runs out, I don't worry about it, because I know I have a full-strength replacement ready and waiting.
This reminds me of a principle that holds true when it comes to our spiritual walk with the Lord: Inevitably, we all reach a point where we get depleted and "low," but God has given us what we need to be rejuvenated and recharged. That is, the word of God.
Unfortunately and sadly, many people never tap into God's built-in plan for restoration, strength, and abundant life. They constantly cry out Lord, I need a word, but they fail to see the merits of making reading and studying Scripture, an integral part of their daily lives. Or if they do recognize the importance, they feel like they're too busy to read it with consistency. But I like to say, "I'm too busy NOT to read the Bible." In other words, all the pressing demands and responsibilities I'm tasked with handling, cause me to run to the word of God as a source of help.
I find refuge in the word.
No matter what struggle I'm facing, I can always find a passage that speaks to my needs. Aren't you glad that God speaks to you and me through His word? Jesus said, "...It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4 KJV).
Just as I need food to satisfy my hunger, and water to quench my thirst, I need the word of God to bring peace to my soul and direction to my life. Without it, I'd be drifting aimlessly through life, not knowing which path or direction to take. I would be starved, lifeless, and hopeless.
I truly believe that sometimes, we get burnt out and our "batteries" run so low, so quickly, because we're not replenishing and recharging with the word. Rather, we're trying to face opposition, deal with personal crises, and meet the demands that come with everyday life, without a word from the Lord in our hearts to sustain us through the rough times.
Today, I admonish you to grab hold to the word of God. It is your lifeline.
Just like I carry a fully charged battery for my phone when it gets low, we ought carry the word with us and let it get inside our hearts and minds. That way, we automatically have something that gives us new life and strength when we're feeling battle weary.
If you're feeling drained, depressed, and overwhelmed, there's a word waiting just for you...
As always, thanks for reading, and until next time... may you be empowered to prosper!
