When I was younger, living at home with my parents, I would often hear my mom whisper, "Lord give me strength" throughout the day. Sometimes she would be in the kitchen cooking or cleaning and just talking to the Lord. As you might imagine, my mother needed plenty of strength and help, since 11 of 14 children lived under one roof at the same time.
Back then, when I was just a young girl without a real care in the world, that simple prayer my mom prayed didn't hold much worth or value for me. I didn't really think a lot of it when I heard her say, "Lord give me strength".
In my mind, it was nothing more than a phrase.
But, for my mom, that was a sincere prayer and petition to God for supernatural ability to handle all that was on her plate. I was just a kid then, lacking wisdom and understanding. Oh, but now, I have a family of my own and numerous responsibilities to juggle. And what was once merely a phrase, has become my personal prayer everyday.
Now I know for myself that the Bible is right when it says, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1 NIV). There have been and still are plenty of times when I just need to call on His name for help.
I don't know about you, but I say, "Lord give me strength" throughout the day, just as my mom did when I was a young girl. As I home school my children; while I cook and clean; as I'm working hard to finish a client project; while I endeavor to balance being a wife, mother and entrepreneur; as I enter new territory I'm unsure of; when I'm feeling weary and tired; I whisper that little prayer to God.
And every single time, He comes to my rescue. He infuses me with strength and reinvigorates me; He wants do the same thing for each of us. But we have to remember to invite and invoke His presence into our lives by asking Him to empower us.
We need His power to continually wash over us and strengthen us anew.
Listen. God knows that we all face challenges from day-to-day; that's why He wants us to run to Him in our time of need. He understands, relates to, and empathizes with our struggles; it pleases God to give us the strength to overcome.
Today, I want you to think of specific issues, circumstances, and situations that may be draining and weakening you. We all have them. Then, take a moment to whisper that four-word prayer: "Lord give me strength".
Rest assured that, every time you call, He'll answer you.
As always, thanks for reading, and until next time... may you be empowered to prosper!
