The other night I was watching a cute little animated movie with the kids called, Horton Hears a Who based on the Dr. Seuss book. In it, Horton the elephant could hear noise coming from a small speck of dust. Turned out that, inside that tiny speck was a whole other world full of little people. Had Horton not believed that such a small specimen could contain life within it, all the Who's dwelling inside of Whoville (the little speck) would have been destroyed.
It's the most adorable animated feature I've seen in a long time, right up there with my top faves for kids. Though the story of Horton is a fictitious one and as adults, we tend to brush things like that off as silly, it actually made me think. I guess I find meaning in even the smallest things; I've been that way for as long as I can remember.
So then, what in the world did I learn from an animated flick starring an elephant with super sonic hearing? I'll tell you.
So many folks are searching for purpose and striving for relevance in life. In truth, I believe we all are to some degree. Yet, some days, we also can feel like tiny insignificant specks in this great big world. But unless we're willing to believe that something even greater lies within us, we'll never be able to maximize our potential. We'll destroy chances and opportunities by closing the door on them.
I don't want you to do that. You see, it can be very difficult to grasp the notion that greatness truly resides within each one of us, especially when there doesn't seem to be anything noteworthy going on in our lives. Work, church, maybe school for some of us, Mommy duty, housework... and not much else in between. It seems like a cycle of mundane, average, ordinary living.
But it's more than that.
Even when you feel like you're just going through the motions in life, do whatever you need to do to remind yourself that your life and your actions mean something.
I want so much for you to get this so you won't be like lots of other people that give up on their destiny too soon. They become resigned to the belief that nothing of any real worth is contained within them.
In their eyes, they are nothing more than a tiny insignificant speck of dust. Even those that muster the strength to actively pursue a divinely inspired dream or goal, sometimes succumb to lowly thoughts of themselves and their purpose. Consequently, when they don't see results quickly enough they tend to get discouraged and begin questioning the significance or worthiness of their cause. When forward movement and satisfactory progress isn't made right away they throw their hands up.
They wave the white flag of surrender and retreat.
But that's not gonna be you, not if I can help it. I guess I'll have to be your version of Horton the elephant. I believe there's a world of potential in you. You're more than just a speck of dust or a minor blip on the world's map. I believe there's something great in you.
Funny thing about Horton the elephant is that he never got to meet the people of Whoville in person. And yet, he believed.
Yep, that's me alright.
Sight unseen, I believe that God has destined you to fill a high calling that no one else can. So, I want you to adopt this simple little prayer that says, "God please help me to see myself as you see me. Let me know that I matter and my life is significant to you as well as the many others in this world that desperately need what I have inside of me, in Jesus' name. Amen."
May God infuse your life with a new sense of purpose, worth, and meaning in order to empower you to be all you can be for Him!
As always, thanks for reading, and until next time... may you be empowered to prosper!
